I have a picture of my other truck on page 73 of this same thread. This is the first time I have pulled my trailer with this truck. I summer in Colorado and had wanted to go to a truck show in Des Moines Iowa the last week of May. I did not want to drive all the way back to Texas to retrieve my trailer, so decided to rig my LTL out to pull the fiver. I installed a sliding fifth wheel on it that slides to the rear to give me plenty of clearance, added an air over electric brake controller and fabricated a second trailer electrical cord to mate up to my fiver. It plugs into the same plug on the back of the sleeper that I use for my semi trailer. I have a set of fenders ordered so the rocks don't beat up my trailer Why Do I Need A Check Valve In My Air Actuated Brake ControlThis topic has been moved to another forum. You can read it here: 29200629Why Do I Need A Check Valve In My Air Actuated Brake ControlI have a Ford air brake truck that I am wanting to pull my fiver with. I bought a Heyes air actuated brake controller to install on the truck. It says to put a check valve in the air line. I have a second air brake truck that I have had for some years that I installed an air brake actuated controller identical to the one I recently bought. I installed that controller about ten years ago and it had no mention if a check valve. It has always worked flawlessly and I have had no problems. Why now does it ask me to install a check valve? What is the function of the check valve unless you blow a line off the brake controller? The truck has a dual air brake system and spring brakes should I have a catastrophic failure.Traffic ProblemsWe just made a trip from Central Texas to Florida for about a week and then back home. The trip went well except for the unforgiving traffic. Going east in Louisiana the traffic came to a complete stand still about five miles west of the Mississippi river bridge at Baton Rouge. We sat there or moved along in first gear for an hour and a half until it finally broke up. It was some kind of construction. By the time we got to the point where the construction was going on there was no one there left working. We moved pretty good until we got about eight miles from the I-12, I-10, I-59 split at Slidell. Once again it came to a complete halt. We were in that jam for three hours, we finally got off I-12 at US hwy. 11 and went south to Alt. US 190 and then to US 190 and over to US 90 until we crossed the Mississippi line and then back north to I-10 to get around the mess. The traffic was heavier than normal on I-10 and I 12 all the way across from Texas to Florida. I think from now on we will just go west and north west out of Central Texas, its a lot less traffic.Re: Trip to NashvilleThanks for the suggestions. I think it will be Two Rivers for Nashville. Riverside Park for Little Rock sounds good too.Trip to NashvilleMy other half and I are leaving next Wednesday for Nashville. We live in Central Texas and plan to stay near Little Rock over night as it is about the half way point between home and Nashville. I know of a good campground at Benton AR. but would like to stay on the east side of Little Rock if possible. If anyone knows of a good campground near I-40 within 20 miles of Little Rock, please post. I have the Good Sam RV Travel Guide, but it does not show anything on the east side of Little Rock. Also I have found several good campgrounds in the Nashville area but if anyone has any good suggestions, please let me know that as well.Re: Whats Your Real Weights? Truck and Trailer. The Real DealI carry a class A CDL. I have a couple of show trucks that I also take to truck shows around the country. While they are not commercial vehicles and are registered as antique vehicles there is always some guy that has a badge and a gun that will try and give you a hard time, so it is just easier to have the license when you may not actually not be required to have one. I have heard horror stories of guys with antique trucks getting hung up on scales or check points late at night and the having to wait until the next morning to see a judge just to be told that he was in the right and was free to go. There is a lot of ignorance and misunderstanding on the part of law enforcement people when it comes to antique trucks.Re: My Other Tow Vehicke Bipeflier wrote: Great job! I have to admit that I like the sound of an old "Jimmy" better though. Shiftin' a Jimmy I have to agree with you on that. There is nothing that sounds better than a Detroit two stroke. I wish my truck had the 238HP inline 6-71 Detroit in it.Re: Whats Your Real Weights? Truck and Trailer. The Real Deal Learjet wrote: I hope you have an air hitch...are that truck might beat up your trailer...just a thought :@ I know what you saying, I have replaced the rear suspension with a late model International air ride. The truck rides as good as a pick up. I also built a receiver hitch for it to tow a bumper pull trailer. Re: My Other Tow Vehicke ScottG wrote: Enjoying the pics very much. A great color choice.
