People boondock on the beach there, and it's a really pretty area. Also, you might want to check out this website for more free camping locations. By the way, regarding the relative differences in temps between North and South Padre Islands, here are a couple links: Corpus Christi and North Padre Port Isabel near South Padre They're only about 80 miles apart, so temps are nearly identical.Re: Texas in the winter? TomG2 wrote: Apparently, I am not making myself clear. I was simply following up the OP who asked about free camping or boondocking in Texas I have stayed at all the parks mentioned. What I am looking for is the free camping that some talk about on SPI (South Padre Island). There are about a dozen of us who would like to spend a weekend camping in a wide variety of rigs on SPI and not have to pay to park there. We can pay, but the ides of boondocking on the beach appeals to some of my buddies more than parking in a conventional campground. We have all done that plenty of times and places. Thanks for all the replies. I missed the name change, and thought that I was answering the OP. If you want other info, you might want to start YOUR OWN thread dealing STRICTLY with boondocking on South Padre.Re: Texas in the winter? I am looking for a place on SPI for late October. I'm referring to North Padre Island. You can get to it by bridge from Corpus Christi, or by driving down Mustang Island from Port Aransas. North Padre is separated from South Padre by a channel, but no bridge, so you have to go all the way around to near Brownsville to access South Padre. Also, last time we were on South Padre we found very few areas to camp on the beach, whereas North Padre and Mustang Island provided almost unlimited access. Also, I don't agree with the statement that North Padre is colder and windier than South Padre. You're talking about a few miles, so the weather isn't any different.Re: Waxing the toilet? stuckinthesand wrote: clicky Wife left a brown streak once so I got her this, problem solved. How in the heck did you manage to find THAT video? :BRe: Texas in the winter?Nicest area is Mustang Island and Padre Island. It's a short walk to the beach and surf fishing. Just a tip: the salt water fishing license will cost you about $65.00, but if you do your surf fishing within the boundaries of the State Park, you don't need a license. You will, however, need a state park pass for about the same amount, but if you use the Texas State Park campgrounds, you may find that a more economical way to go.Re: Branson or Silver Dollar CityThanks for all the tips everyone. John, I'll remember to pass your greeting along if we stay there. Looks like a nice location.Re: Branson or Silver Dollar CityThanks for the info folks. I was under the impression that SDC was an actual town......in fact, when I plugged it into my Streets and Trips, that's how it looked on the map. Sounds like a worthwhile place to see in December though. By the way, has anyone stayed at Branson Shenanigans RV Park? Well, I just checked the satellite view, and it looks like Shenanigans is much more "in town" than the recommendations here. Thanks for the suggestions. I HATE driving in traffic when I can avoid it.Branson or Silver Dollar CityWe've never been to either town, but wanted to see the Christmas displays on our way south, so we figured that this would be the year to do it. Any input regarding staying closer to Silver Dollar City or Branson? We prefer quiet and less congested, but if that's not possible then we'll just cope. Also, does Silver Dollar City dress up for Christmas to the extent that Branson does? We're not big into shows, but more into sightseeing. Thanks for any advice.Re: Border crossing DetroitOne of the stores that I shop at has a LOT of Canadian customers, and I've heard the cashier say that they would accept the card as long as it had either a Master Card or Visa logo on it. Those that are strictly backed by a Canadian bank alone, without the endorsement, were not accepted.
