We decided this might be the best way too. We want to go through Dayton and see the Air Force Museum at Wright-Patterson on the way.Re: Hitch Pin Help IBcarguy wrote: I also have a new rig similar to yours and I've been fighting a severe chucking and jerking over bumps and dips in the road. I use a Andersen Ultimate hitch but I don't think the problem is caused by the hitch anyway. I tried adding pin weight, Bilstein shocks on my truck, leveling the trailer, etc. As a last resort, 3 weeks ago I bought a MORryde pinbox. This pinbox made a huge difference. It doesn't cure the chucking, but dampens it so well that I could drive all day without getting beat up and stressed out. I highly recommend it and would never own another 5th wheel without a MORryde or equivalent shock absorbing pinbox. I got a great deal from Tweety's for $485 including shipping. Did you install the MORryde pinbox yourself?Re: SouthEast Virginia to Elkhart IndianaThanks for the replies. We also don't really want to drive through West Virginia, although a beautiful state, the mountains are so difficult towing the fifth wheel. And we were trying to avoid going north through Washington. The drive from our area to Washington can be four hours or eight depending on traffic so that's why we were looking at maybe going I40 through North Carolina to Knoxville (which we are familar with) and then up 75 to Cincinnati but then what? Or go up 75 to 64 through Louisville and then what? We have about 2 weeks to make the trip if we want to stop and tour the areas so time isn't the problem. We just want the lest aggravating travel route. Any places we shouldn't miss if we went that route? Any places we should avoid on that route? And what is the best way to Elkhart after we are in Indiana? Thanks again.SouthEast Virginia to Elkhart IndianaWe are planning a trip to Elkhart Indiana in August with our 36' fifth wheel. We need planning advise for a good route. We are trying to decide between swinging south through NC and I40 or going north through West Virginia. We are also not sure which way to approach Elkhart. Any suggestions on routes and roads would be greatly appreciated. It would also be nice if anyone has any suggestions on possible stops along the way. We are Thousand Trails members and we have a free summer with Encore so it would be nice to use those campgrounds when possible. Thanks for your help.Re: Memphis TnI have to way in for the Graceland RV park. We were traveling from VA to Oklahoma and had planned a two night stay in Memphis to see Graceland. I have to say I was really concerned when we saw the area but the RV park was very nice. It is fenced all around the property and there is a guard at the gate so you can only enter if you are staying at the campground. We actually stayed for one week. The day we arrived when went out to get grocery and truck broke down. We had to be towed to Ford dealer ship. We rented a car and saw more of Memphis than we planned. We had a great time. Highlights were Graceland (I'm a big Elvis fan), Marlowe's Ribs (pink limo will pick you up free at the campground and bring you back), and Mud Island River Park. By the way, the campground was super busy but they were wonderful to work with us. We weren't sure when our truck would be ready and we just had to let the campground office know every morning if we were staying another day. Great people.Re: louisville ky campgroundWe also camped at this Louisville Metro KOA that Dutchmen Sport linked in the previous post. We were attended a conference at the convention center. The sites are very tight for slides and awnings but the location was perfect. While you are in Louisville don't miss a trip to one of the Homemade Ice Cream & Pie Kitchen Shop. There are 10 in the area and the pie is delicious. We made a few trips and ate pie instead of dinner!Re: Suggestions for Retirement TripThanks so much for the suggestions. We've traveled quite a bit every summer so that is what is making this so hard. We did the New York to Canada to Maine trip several years ago. Loved the area and I'm sure we could discover more on a return trip. We are both from North Carolina so Asheville and Biltmore are like old home places but we love both and maybe we should go again. We did a trip last year to Oklahoma. We went through Memphis (Elvis) on the way out. Visit Branson and traveled back through Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg on our way back. We have not been to Kentucky. Maybe that should be our destination. Our daughter just mentioned Nashville. We didn't stop there on our trip to Oklahoma. You've all been so helpful. It is so nice to share the ideas. If we headed to Kentucky what would someone recommend as not to be missed. What about Nashville? Thanks again.Suggestions for Retirement TripMy husband and I are retiring in May! Our plan is to sell our house and moving into the fifth wheel full time for a few years. We have some work to do on the house before it is ready to sell so our summer is set with "housework" but we thought it would be nice to take a few weeks in May for a "retirement" trip before we start the work on the house. Our problem is thinking a someplace worthy of being the retirement trip. We don't want to go to our regular campgrounds and sit around for a few weeks. We would like to have a destination trip where we could explore something new. We live on the coast in Virginia so our travel radius could include East of the Mississippi. We are saving the big across country trip for full timing and we are saving Florida for next winter. Anyone have suggestions? We love historical sites, some city is okay, mostly beautiful landscape. We camp in a fifth-wheel so most state parks are out. We need full hookups. Wow, that's a lot of info. Please let me know where you have been that you thought was spectacular. Thanks so much.
