Diesel fuel prices are above four dollars a gallon in North Dakota. They`re much higher than gasoline prices, and it used to be the other way around. North Dakota Department of Mineral Resources director Lynn Helms says new federal low-sulfur standards for diesel fuel that`s used in over-the-road vehicles have caused the prices to rise. Refineries needed to install new equipment, and more oil is needed to produce a gallon of low-sulfur fuel. Helms says there`s also the Europe factor. He says there`s heavy demand for diesel fuel there because many more road vehicles use it -- and there`s an oversupply of gasoline. KFYR-TV Re: Diesel vs gas...................... Remember when buying and operating a diesel-engine vehicle was a good way to save fuel costs? Not anymore. In fact, operating a diesel-engine vehicle of any kind is more expensive then an engine using regular gasoline. Case in point, a listener pointed out that the price of diesel at XtraMart in North Adams on Monday was a whopping $4.26; it's $4.21 in Great Barrington and Pittsfield. Besides private diesel-powered vehicles, think of how many larger trucks, tractor-trailers, school buses and even locomotive engines are powered with diesel fuel. Compared to previous months, the federal Energy Information Administration shows the price of diesel spiking sharply higher since February and more than double what it was last year. The average price of diesel fuel was usually lower than gasoline until a few years ago, when worldwide demand began rising. In the United States, the transition to low-sulfur diesel fuel has affected production and distribution costs and federal excise tax on diesel fuel is 6 cents higher per gallon than the tax on gasoline. According to an Associated Press report, the American Trucking Association is calling it a "crisis situation" and is asking Congress and the Bush administration to increase the availability of diesel fuel any way possible. The trucking industry is expecting to spend $135 billion in fuel costs this year, compared to $112.6 billion last year. No wonder the cost of transportation and goods and services that use diesel-fuel vehicles are going sky high. Up, Up and Away Re: Diesel vs gas...................... Area diesel fuel prices continued to climb on Tuesday, reaching record high levels in Pennsylvania, Delaware and New Jersey, AAA Mid-Atlantic reported. The current average price per gallon for diesel is at a record $4.27 in the five-county Philadelphia region, $4.25 statewide in Pennsylvania, $4.11 in Delaware and $4.02 statewide in New Jersey, including South Jersey. The average price per gallon for regular unleaded gas edged up by a penny overnight in the five-county Philadelphia region and statewide in New Jersey to $3.23 and $3.06, respectively. Prices remained unchanged statewide in Pennsylvania ($3.27), Delaware ($3.20) and South Jersey ($3.04.) Diesel fuel prices continue to rise Re: Diesel vs gas......................I sold my 2003 PSD Excursion last fall before the big diesel price hike and just purchased a 2002 Chevy Express 8.1 155" wb passenger van and paid $2.99 today for reg unl and diesel was $3.95. I don't miss the diesel at all now since the 8.1 runs fantastic. Re: Diesel vs gas......................Do the math before you pay the diesel premium price since the diesel options are double what they were several years ago and you could buy alot of gas for the extra $3,000 to $8,000 price.Re: Diesel vs gas......................With the price of the diesel option double from my 2000 7.3 PSD and 2003 6.0 PSD I would like to see Ford come back with the V10/5-speed Torqshift option in the Extended E350 passenger van. Or better yet I would like to see GM put the 325HP 450TQ 8.1 big block that is in the 2008 C4500 Chevy medium-duty in the 3500 155" wheelbase passenger van with the new 6-SPEED HYDRA-MATIC 6L90 with 4.03 1st gear and 531ft/lb torque rating that is in the 2008 3500HD pickup.Re: HEY we need a sticky for our TT pics!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Re: Diesel vs gas...................... Frankly, I don't care how much I spend on gas. Here's why: I have to have it so I buy it. I have a 2005 Chevy Silverado Crew Cab, 6.5 bed, Allison Tran, 8.1, with a 26 GALLON TANK! How's that for a double whammy!! I love the truck. It suits my needs. At least with that small tank you don't have to make bathroom stops since you must stop every couple hours for gas.Re: Diesel vs gas...................... LASTLS1 wrote: Options to consider. Deisel is .10 more a gallon. My new F350 6.0 Powerstroke gets between 8-11mpg. That is empty no towing. I really think I could get the same milage with a gas engine. After having a 7.3 powerstroke for 5 yrs I'm REALLY disapointed with this new engine. Also for some reason it smells BAD!!! As far as Chevy or Dodge I don't know. I would recommend the older 7.3 power stroke. Better mileage and better for pulling heavy loads. Hope this helps, Andy. Is that a joke or what ? I get better mpg towing my 41 ft TT than you do empty. Did you leave it in 1st gear ?:RRe: Hensley Arrow: How does it REALLY work? Claude B wrote: PSDE, And i guess that with a 41' TT, you don't need a water pressure regulator ! The hose is soooooo long that the pressure drop just take care of it !!! ;) LOL Yep, first time out I had to go to Walmart and get an extra water hose. I use the brass water pressure regulator that in much stronger than the plastic ones.
