This was pretty simple, I think I had to make the hole on the outer skin a little larger but the new socket looks like it belongs, I put some info about it on this blog post… http://flyte63.blogspot.com/2020/09/avion-water-and-power-upgrades.htmlRe: Avion truck campers - Hundreds of photosI replaced the Bargman lock with a modern unit that I got online from a place called Latch-it. I looked at the dimension specs for a lot of the locks of this type and felt theirs had had the best chance of working. I still had to modify its guts a little to work with the thick Avion door on our early ‘65 C-10 by adding an aluminum extension piece the inside lever and ai had to extend the plastic barrel of the inside lock lever. I did have to enlarge the hole in the outer door skin as well. We like the action of this style lock better than turning knob when climbing up the steps. There’s some photos of it installed on my blog post here... http://flyte63.blogspot.com/2021/11/Re: Avion truck campers - Hundreds of photos‘67 - glad that your rig is on the best hands, quite amazing that the Cayo’s are still available as a resource! Our C-10 is in storage for the winter but last fall we finished our second season with the Avion back on the road and have traveled about 7,500 miles and have camped in 7 states. The 3 years of renovation/restoration work have definitely proved to be worth it. Good to see you all keeping yours going as well. Happy New Year!Re: Avion truck campers - Hundreds of photos67- your Avion has been an inspiration to many of us here, glad that you are having it done right. Also good to hear that you are taking care of yourself and are on the mend- scary stuff! Posting photos seems harder than ever - I’ve found recently that I can post links to my photos stored online elsewhere lately, but hard to get an inline image. Here’s a test for an image stored in google photos 1965 Avion C-10 at TCT Annual Gathering in 2022 Re: Armless Rear AwningI’m also interested in options for a rear awning that doesn’t have arms on the sides, great topic. Does anyone have photos of DIY solutions that work? One thing that I saw on a trailer recently that might work on a truck camper was the use of a molded plastic Velcro-like strip that was attached across the top area above the door frame and a pair of eye-straps or other physical anchor points at each end. Then a pair of typical awning poles with guy-lines at the outer ends of the awning. Thanks for any ideas on this!Re: Victron DC to DC in engine compartment? Thanks for the input on this. I ended up installing the Victron Orion in the camper running 4AWG back to the camper from the engine bay. The Orion itself does run pretty hot, so I’ve added a fan in the electrical cabinet that comes on anytime the Orion is enabled by via an up-fitter switch in the truck cab. Seems like a nice unit, will get a chance to really test it on on the road soon.Re: Avion truck campers - Hundreds of photosOff-Grid apparently! Hopefully this is the case. We’ve done a bit of traveling this summer with our a Avion, camping in New York, Ohio, and Michigan.Victron DC to DC in engine compartment?Has anyone mounted their DC to DC charger in the engine compartment of their truck? I’m looking at options for where to mount a Victron Orion unit to charge the camper batteries off the trucks alternator. My camper batteries are in boxes mounted to the truck bed and I was thinking that if the Orion was in the engine compartment it might be more efficient for wiring. I’m not sure about the heat from the engine or potential to get wet though. Just and idea, and maybe a bad one- wondering if anyone has done this?Re: Avion truck campers - Hundreds of photosI looked at the Propex heaters and I think the best option if we were planning to do winter camping, but for now just looking to extend late summer into fall. We also considered the Dickson Newport which is very cool and seems like a safe option for wood-stove like ambience, but we also were not sure about how and where to best install it.Re: Ford 6.2 gas vs 7.3 gas highway gas milage8 to 10 weeks is what we were originally told as “normal”. But apparently orders are up this year, possibly due to stimulus checks making their way to contractors and then being converted into new trucks - one theory anyway. From banter on the ford truck forums it does sound like some orders are being built sooner than others, maybe due to different cab/chassis configurations and trim levels.
