Re: What did you do to your Class C MH today???I guess this is preliminary...tomorrow I'm going down to A1A Hardware to buy some chain. The hitch mount is breaking away from the chassis extension on this rustbucket and the obvious solution is to chain it up so that even if it breaks it isn't going to fall off in the road. The silly angle is that there's only a 140# grill on the hitch carrier. We need only to get about another 500 miles. So.... on our old rustbucket we have a chassis extension about four feet long culminating in a bumper. Unfortunately the extension was a closed channel rather than an I-beam and it trapped water over all the years. I gather the fix is to have someone cut it off past the rust and do some welding? OTOH if we get to Georgia in one piece we don't care whether or not we have a bumper... Geez....I'm a hillbilly. There's something a little different about keeping a 25-year-old motorhome alive....Re: Handy Hints, Gadgets, Products & GizmosI don't do that if the laundryroom is busy, just when there's only a couple of us in the cg.Re: Handy Hints, Gadgets, Products & GizmosWe've winnowed down the clothing to a bag of "nice" stuff we never wear and two t-shirts and two shorts. Therefore we do laundry every week with the previous week's clothing plus towels etc. It's no big deal to put it in the washer, wander back in an hour or two, then put it in the dryer and wander back in an hour or two..or tomorrow morning... It's not like we do any strenuous activities that'll sweat anything up. Re: What did you do to your Class C MH today???Well we didn't really do it today, but recently we've added a Dish Tailgater to our arsenal of gadgets. _It works great!_ We simply hook it to the receiver, plunk it in a likely-looking spot, power everything up and leave it alone for a half hour or so. If we're lucky and not trying to see through a bunch of trees we're automagically watching HDTV. It helps to have a hand-bearing compass such as the cheapo Winegard to ascertain the probable tree interference; in our area the bearing on the sats is southwest, not Dish's "southern sky." In a couple of parks in which the Tailgater couldn't hit all the sats at least SD was available.Re: Handy Hints, Gadgets, Products & GizmosAll those collapsible bowls, collanders etc just bailed out on me. There's just more that can be crammed in there, too much more. Surely. Did you ever consider the 'Oak countertop extension" sold by CW? It's of perfectly fine quality...but the walls of your trailer aren't. What do I need to do, through-bolt it? We expended our fourteen-year-old by observing that with limbs folded up he'd fit into the pig cooker. I don't know he's never wanted to go camping with us...Re: What did you do to your Class C MH today???Gooped, gooped and gooped. At least the water isn't running out any more; I can only presume that water isn't running in. And now if it'll ever stop raining I can get another coat of POR-15 on the steps. At least it's 75F+ when it's raining. :BRe: What did you do to your Class C MH today???Painted the steps with POR-15; as usual got more paint on me than the steps. :RRe: What did you do to your Class C MH today???A little maintenance... Stopped a leak at the water heater a while back, then once dry painted the floor in that compartment with Git-Rot and will follow with a coat of Gluvit making sort of a pan. If it leaks again, and it probably will, it won't soak the wood. Slopped some POR-15 on the underside of the hood and the bottom of the doors. Gotta get the doors filled and covered with diamond plate or something. And enjoyed the sunny 73F weather at our home base in Florida. Re: What did you do to your Class C MH today???Hosed out the kitty carpet. "Outside the box' should remain an unfamliar term for him. On other topics we hired Master-Carpenter Larmer to rebuild the cabover. I have no idea if the title actually exists, but he's really good. Slow but good. This is a $5k job done for way less. I was thinking about it back in April. I'm good in aluminum and fiberglas but carpenty isn't my strong suit, not by a long shot. I could've made it structurally sound but we would've been down by the nose a thousand pounds and that's not cool. If this turns our ok I'll post Larmer's name and phone number. In any event, we gotta do something. She's not leaking any more but the 22 years of dry rot have to be dealt with.
