Both Parks we're nice but giant well exceeded our kids expectations with a park, tether ball directly behind our site and as others stated above, ancient was essentially an rv parking lot. People were much friendly and outgoing and many more kids at giant. Ground is a bit unlevel, but nonthing concerning. Only true draw back is a current algae bloom keeping the dog and kids out of the river.Re: Headed to the RedwoodsCertainly appreciate, and reference the place to stay I found plenty of recommendations in a few other threads.Headed to the RedwoodsJust curious if anyone has any advice reference does and don'ts for pulling my 26' TT through the redwoods, specifically the Av of the Giants, formerly 101 now CA 247 I do believe. And if anyone knows of a park they recommend that would be great too. Thanks in advance.Re: Just Loving It You'll soon be planing a cross country trip. Enjoy. :) You definitely don't want the 'Superbug', it's out there. Not sure if its a gift or a curse at this point, but cross country is not really on my radar yet....Active duty military with three little ones makes it a bit difficult to have the consecutive vacation time to endure such a journey; however, it shall be done in the long term. That is our bucket list idea right now for picking a retirement location...Travel the country in the RV till we find one.Just Loving ItJust feeling excited. We are officially bug bitten by camping. We took delivery of our first ever TT on the 16th of April. Today marks the beginning of our 4th trip. Back to Del Mar on Camp Pendleton!! Just 3 days this time but it's great to be able to just get up and go. Hope everyone has a great Memorial Day Weekend, keep your selves safe.Re: Cool Mods - Thread restored 10/18/2012We just purchased our first RV, a 2016 Outdoors Black Rock 26BHS, first ....morning sun creeping in the blinds. We have a neighbor that sews and naturally my wife immediately enlisted her help to sew black out curtains on the back side of the blinds. Sorry, they're installed and as such a picture does no justice.Second TripSince we got our first RV a whooping 10 days ago, we are only 6 days from our second trip. Mother's day weekend we will make the short trip to San Onofre Beach just north of San Diego. Kids can't wait, and I can't wait to see how many of the first trip kinks I've worked out. Photos and memories to follow shortly! Happy Camping all.Re: New To RV World Need Brake Help! Be careful using the manual control. It only activates the 4 (or 2) electric drum (probably) brakes on the trailer. Extended use can generate a lot of heat. I find it best to just use the vehicle brake pedal as that operates all brakes on the trailer and tow vehicle in concert. There are times (excessive sway comes to mind) when manual trailer brake application is appropriate but most braking should be done with the brake pedal. I guess I should have perhaps been a little more clear. I was not just coasting down the hill hammering on the manual. There were a couple of spots where I used to manual boost while already on the brake in situations that I felt things were a bit lose so to speak. But appreciate the heads up!Re: New To RV World Need Brake Help!Just an update, I went with the Primus. My first pull was a short 2 hour ride and everything worked out fine. It was all but calibrated out of the box, just a minor adjustment and the manual control worked well for my first run down a couple of 6 degree grades at higher speeds than I was initially comfortable with due to "no shoulder" with concrete barrier construction during high volume traffic en route to San Diego area from Los Angeles (Friday of course when all the Los Angeleans flock South for the weekend). Thanks all for your input, much appreciated.Re: Day 1 We own an RV!!!!! profdant139 wrote: Well done! Once you get comfortable with towing and setting up your trailer, there is so much to do and see, especially in the West. We are also from SoCal -- feel free to click on our blog link below, just to get some ideas of the places you can go. Let the fun begin! Thanks, wasn't overly worried about the tow short of being a little close on Gross total pulling a 6800 lb dry weight with a 1/2 ton 5.4L V8 with 175K on it already, and a family of 5. When the trip down was done yesterday, it was more adjusting to the combination of the two and learning the "limits" so to speak. All in all it was a fairly easy drive as I've been towing for years, just not civilian vehicles. As you are in SoCal as well, Onofre in two weeks and probably Lake O'neil a couple weeks later. Trying to enjoy as many weekend trips as possible till we move up to Washington later this summer.
