Works nice.Re: Flat towing a Jeep YJI have the truck and camper in the signature below and tow a JK which I recently weighed at 4400 lbs. My truck tows the load down the road just fine, you hardly know the jeep is there. I've towed this configuration for about 10,000 miles now and have not had any issues. I do use a supplemental brake system which I feel was a real benefit on one sudden stop. Generally I leave a lot of distance between myself and the vehicle ahead and slow for stops or corners very early. I think my camper weighs in at about 4000 lbs. loaded. You should make a fairly simple internal wiring change to allow full wattage at 120 volts to a single outlet. Since page numbers for back postings on this forum do not seem to be consistent, go to "Advanced Search" and select "Sonic1954" as the author and "Tech Issues" as the forum. Look for a posting from Sonic1954 on 11/02/05. You will find complete instructions with photos for the wiring conversion/change. Follow them, you will be pleased with the results. Re: 3000W Chinese Gensets Info.Sure, that is the exact model I have. The receptacle you refer to is a 110 volt 30 amp twistlock. Next to that is a 110/220 twistlock. jmramiller wrote: This is the Champion C46535. Can anyone tell me what the plug next to the meter is? I heard these were supposed to be available this year with the rv style plug - can't tell if this is it or not. Check this website: http://www.partsamerica.com/productdetail.aspx?mfrcode=CPE&mfrpartnumber=C46535 Price is $299.00 Re: 3000W Chinese Gensets Info.Post those instructions ericolemmon!Re: 3000W Chinese Gensets Info.Rotten Rob that is the Champion model. I bought two of them. The 4450 peak watt rating is there because it has a 20 amp breaker on the 220 volt plug. The 120 volt breaker is 30 amp. It is rated at 3500 watts continous. 196 cc engine, same frame, muffler etc as the rest of the chinese units. Seems OK so far.Re: 3000W Chinese Gensets Info.Wow Pat, nice write up. I purchased the Champion unit recently as well and it is interesting to note the front panel is different. Mine has the twist lock 120/240 plug on a 20 amp breaker, a 120 volt twistlock on a 30 amp breaker and one duplex plug oriented as you describe. I made an adapter to run my 30 amp rv service off the 120 volt twistlock plug by purchasing the pigtail and an L5-30 plug. I agree the noise level would be disturbing to other campers but yes indeed you can talk beside the unit in a normal tone while it is running. My load tests were nowhere near as sofistacated as yours. I started the generator, plugged in the rv to the 30 amp twistlock plug and ran a 1500watt heater inside the unit. I then turned on the 13,500 btu a/c and could not hear an audible difference in the sound of the generator. I then started my rv microwave on high (not sure of the wattage). The engine began to load then after a few seconds the 30 amp breaker on the generator popped. I really don't know how many watts I had going but I was hoping to run my a/c when remote camping in the boonies and it is apparent that will not be a problem. Oh I guess the refrigerator and the converter were also drawing power the same time I was testing the unit as well. I agree it could be a great unit for emergency backup power. BrianRe: 3000W Chinese Gensets Info.I bought two of the Champion 3500 Watt units while on vacation in the US recently. I fired one of them up today. Starts easy, I don't know whether I would call it quiet or not though. I looked at the Jiang Dong units at Harbor freight and other than the arrangement of the outlets on the front panel these units could pass for twins, same frame, 196 cc engines, muffler and guard look identical, engine, carb, and air cleaner look identical. I made an adapter to go from the 30 amp rv plug to the 30 amp 110 volt twist lock and ran my a/c and microwave off the generator no problem. The breaker on the generator kicked off when I turned on the 1500 watt heater as expected. I expect to use this unit very little and only out in the middle of nowhere so I guess it will be alright. BrianRe: 3000W Chinese Gensets Info. This is the link but it doesn't seem to be working now. http://www.eliminternational.com/Partsbooks/eliminator/ELM3000-partsbook.pdfRe: 3000W Chinese Gensets Info.Very interesting discussion on brushes in these generators. The more I look at these clones the more I think they are the same. I think Mr. Wizard is correct in that they will find small brushes in the Powerwise 3500. I think you will also find them in the ELM3000. Look at this picture from the eliminator 3000 parts manual. It is on page 33 of the manual, item # 4 called "Brush Assy". It looks like an easy to change piece, which is how Paul Cole of Champion Power Equipment described it on the champion units. Anyway here is the URL: http://www.eliminternational.com/Partsbooks/eliminator/ELM3000-partsbook.pdf These clones all appear to be using the same mufflers, fuel tanks etc but some call the engine 196cc and some call it 200cc.
