I take seriously my customer responsibility for due diligence. Either this RV is old and poorly cared for, or if new, the manufacturer has serious problems with QC, fit and finish, or the roof has been damaged by somebody going up on it. It is not just the roof (which is a lot like finding a car on a dealer's lot that has been heavily hail damaged), other quality problems are obvious. But people still choose to buy vehicles like these, cars, trucks and RVs, to save the money vs the price of a "perfect" one. I haven't looked at K-Zs for about six years, was not enthusiastic about them then, and if this is typical of what they are doing now, they've gone downhill since. As for water pooling around the A/C, or in other low spots, many RVs used to be made like this, and many still are. A "domed" roof is still rare enough to be featured as a "plus" in sales brochures, but should be a "must" for a careful buyer. The gaskets and sealing materials are supposed to hold the water out, and they do if maintained, the job is easier, safety margins better, if the roof is curved, even though the curvature complicates the sealing efforts. Looking more, down the side, there is buckling along the top trim strip, where the dents are located on the roof. Is the frame of this thing bent? Did a tree fall on it? I never thought to actually inspect the roof when we did the walk-through , nor did I think to inspect other things that I have had issues with . Purchasing this brand new TT has definitely taught me a lesson about carefully inspecting things before I leave the lot yet I should not have had too . It is very sad that I have learned with buying this TT and reading the experiences of other new owners lately that there seems to be a MAJOR lack of QC with alot of the new trailers on the lots . As far as I know a tree has never fallen on it but I will ask when I take it back to the dealer , like they would confess to that .Re: Should I be worried ?The first pic you can see where the gutter is at the lowest point in the middle . This causes what water does run off to spill onto the slide because again , water wont run uphill . You can see in the other pic where it looks like someone actually tried to crease the roof to aid in the run off but it still pools around the a/c unit .Re: Should I be worried ? Re: Should I be worried ?The roof at the front of the trailer has a bit of an upward bow to it but this is only near the front of the trailer . About 2 feet back it basically flattens out and has several low spots , one around the a/c and one around one of the vents in the rear . I will see if I can get a pic to upload in a bit . The TT is a KZ Sportsman Classic 250S . We stopped by the dealer the other day on the way home from a camping trip to discuss this with the service department but their service department is closed on saturday so the parts guy took pictures to show the service manager . He called yesterday and told me that he has not ever seen this be an issue . I looked on their lot and found a KZ Spree 250s which is the exact trailer but with fancier options and the roof was worse looking on it than ours . I told him to go look at this one but im sure he will not . I guess I will continue to speak with the dealer I actually purchased from and see if I can get them to fix it .Re: Should I be worried ?CS rep from factory claims this will not ever be an issue and both of the service managers from the dealer have the same attitude . Basically if it is not leaking water then it is not broke . I am more concerned with the longevity of this trailer as we really like the floor plan and such . I will try the string thing but from just looking at it , it does seem to have a little roof sag in the middle even on the inside but it may just be me being paranoid !Should I be worried ?First off I would like to thank each and every one of you for all the valuable info I have already learned from this site . We have owned several older TT's throughout time but recently took the plunge and purchased a new unit . I have already experienced many little issues with lack of QC with this new trailer but luckily I am skilled enough to handle this type of stuff myself without having to haul the trailer 2 hours to where we purchased it or worry about not being able to use the trailer on a whims notice due to it being in the shop . One of the more concerning issues I am having with this new unit is that the aluminum roof seems to be lower in the middle than on the sides , especially where the a/c sits . Every time we use the trailer I take a ladder and look on the roof after running the a/c for a couple hours there is a good amount of water pooled around the a/c unit that does not seem to drain off since water usually does not run uphill . I understand this is considered an entry level trailer and do not expect it to perfect but I am having a hard time explaining my concern to the dealer . I have spoke to 2 different service managers from 2 different branches of the dealer I purchased my trailer from and both pretty much say that this is just a characteristic of aluminum roofs , to be wavy and have low spots . I have also been assured that the seal on the a/c unit should keep the pooled water from actually entering the unit . So what happens when this seal no longer does its job ? I understand that when this happens water will enter the trailer but this may not be noticeable at first and may not be caught until it has done major damage to the wood structure of the trailer . Can any of you offer any advise with this , or is this really a it isn't broke so don't fix it kind of issue ? I am really tempted to go ahead and remove the a/c unit and add a 1/2" sheet of ply under the metal skin where the a/c unit sits to help lift this portion of the roof so it will aid in water runoff . Have any of you performed this or is it recommended ?Re: Screen Door OpenerWell, after looking at it a little further , I have determined to go ahead and retro fit it to our door . After buying some 1/8 thin plexi , I will more than likely be building the worlds most expensive door slide with built in opened . Will post pics after completion .Re: Screen Door OpenerWell , it was a neat idea but would not work on our door . Both mine and my buddy's TT have Dexter doors and the opening on those is quite a bit larger and the release for the door is more at the bottom of where the slide would fit into the groove therefore the button would not be allowed to be pressed down far enough even if it would fit the frame . Guess this is just the difference between Lipert and Dexter doors . Guess I will be returning this and trying the $5 camco opener .Re: Screen Door OpenerI have seen these on a couple new trailers lately but have yet to determine who makes it and a buddy of mine sent me this pic about 2 hours ago . I had him pick me one up .Re: Screen Door OpenerIts a clear plastic sheet that replaces the white slider that most of our screen doors came with . There is a button that you slide down that activates the actual screen door opener so you dont have to slide the cover over to open the screen door from the inside . Very handy and I like this better than the camco piece that could easily break off .
