The Real DealTruck and trailer in signature line, full of fuel, food, wife, kids and the dog yesterday on the scales. Front 5040lbs Rear 5260lbs (300 lbs over recommeneded truck total of 10k, but 700lbs left on the rear axel/tires) Trailer 6700lbs Total 17000lbs Drops a little when loaded but not enough to warrant bags at all and I get 10 to 12 mpg (depending on terrain) at 65mph. (Not pulling the boat either, never pulled doubles with it)Re: Glen Rose, Texas? Most of North Texas is still in a bad drought. We are at stage 5 water restrictions where I live at, I've been hauling well water from my parents house to mine to water the foundation. My TV has a 275 gallon tote in it to haul it from there to here. I've heard zebras have a bit of an attitude, I know ostriches do and know to keep the windows up and keep driving around them. You would think they would be a bit nicer since your giving them food though, but they are not.Re: Glen Rose, Texas?Good tip on fossil rim and the feed store. Looks like we are goin to stay at tres rios, they have cabins too for the rest of the family. Going to hit the state park too, that is the basis behind the whole trip. Thanks for all of the tips and help everyone.Glen Rose, Texas?Just wanting to see if anyone had any pros or cons for the parks around Glen Rose. Going to take the kids there and would like opinions. Thanks for the help!Re: New 2013 pricing F250I did the same thing your looking at doing last year, bought a 2012 in 2013. Mine was 13k off the sticker, had 7 miles on it when I test drove it, and I got a good deal on my trade. Keep looking and you'll find a dealer that wants to sell trucks and not show them off on their lot.Re: 2014 Chevy Silverado 1500If mileage is your concern here is food for thought. My F250 PSD gets the same mileage as my last 1500 GMC with the 5.3 V8. I average 15.6 daily driving (mix of highway and city) and get 18.5 to 19 on the highway running 75. Diesel is more than gas, about 30 cents a gallon here, and that equals about $6 everytime I fill up with 20 gallons. Those are the main reasons I went with a 3/4 ton diesel instead of a 1/2 ton gas when I bought this truck. We had planned on buying a 5er to, that played into it as well. I would at least suggest you price the larger truck with the options you want before you buy. For me the 1/2 ton gas 4WD was around $2000 less than the 3/4 ton diesel 4WD. I was comparing GMC 1/2 tons to Ford 3/4 tons, so that had a little to do with it. Just something to think about. It's a lot easier to buy big enough the first time than upgrade a year or so later. P.S. The diesel blows the 1/2 ton out of the water pulling anything. I get 14.5 highway pulling a 21 foot bass boat 75 down the highway and the 1/2 ton got 10 on a good day.Re: Savvy buyer neededWe got 38% off of ours and everyone was happy. I guess we should have pushed for more but I was happy with the price and trailer so let it go at that. I think my kids would have killed me if I tried the walk away technique to get a little more off of it. At 8 and 4 they don't have very good negotiating skills.Re: F250 Brake BoxThank you very much. That was the only real thing I was worried about. I had already talked the wife out of a huge fiver that would have been pushing the trucks weight limits, but had no idea how well that controller worked. We should pick up the RV in two weeks or so and wanted to have the truck ready to go before I got there. Dang thing called work getting in the way of all the fun!!!Re: Looking for bass fishing localesIf your going to winter in Texas, Lake Fork in the early spring (mid March to mid April) has to be included. If you look at the state records, Fork has about 20 of the top 25. If you like to fish docks, it is not the lake for you though. It is mostly trees and other submerged structure and the bite can go from real shallow to 30+ feet depending on time of year and temperature. It is a slot limit lake though, so if it is between 18 and 24 inches all you can keep is a picture and a memory.F250 Brake BoxOk, this is my first post and I hope this is not looked at as a stupid question. I have a 2012 F250 PSD with the build in brake control box. How well does this one work and should it be replaced with a fiver that has a max weight of 10,500? It's dry weight is 7,900 and for the trips we plan on taking, close and two to three nights at a time, it will probably max out at 9,500 or less. We have two small kids and work a lot, so long trips will not be there for a while as it has been a long time since I have RV'd and my wife never has but is jumping up and down about it. I do have quite a bit of driving experience. I've gone coast to coast with forty foot goosenecks, but the trucks used to pull them did not have a factory brake control and the box was installed by the truck owner. I know that my bass boat with surge brakes is a lot lighter and does not use the same system, but the truck does not even know its there. Thanks for any and all advice and if I left anything out all you need to do is ask and I will fill in the gaps. Rick
