Take you pick, use a cable or a chain with a padlock. You won't stop a determined thief but nobody can just pick it up and walk away either. Enjoy your camping and don't obsess over something that could/might happen. By the way, we have been all over this country and stayed in very nice and some not so nice campgrounds. It is what it was made for. Buy a extra which will almost guarantee you will never have the same problem again. The key word here is shear, it is supposed to fail first. Think you need to talk to your lawyer. The wording is to their benefit, but clearly refers to the item that was replaced not the item it was replaced with. Pettecote Junction Campground is the only one I know of on the trail. Has been several years, but it was peaceful, beautiful and quiet. They have hookups and showers.
