All ActivityMost RecentMost LikesSolutionsRe: Popup truck camper with soft sidesI think you will find it depends on the local situation and interpretation. We've hosted a campground where all types of campers and tents were allowed, until the time when a grizzly was hanging around in the campground. Then only hard sided campers were allowed and even pop-up truck campers were not allowed. There are some campgrounds where soft sided campers of any type are banned all the time. I think you shouldn't worry too much about it and just enjoy your camper wherever you want to take it. Observe rules about bear attractants and safety, and if you find a campground that bans your type of camper, find another campground or boondock it. Keep in mind, they do not enforce bans on soft-sided campers unless there is a credible threat. You have to consider the local situation, but the chance encounter with a bear should not be enough to deter you if that is the type of camper you choose.Re: The "Walking TC"How about an ez-loader one that walks onto the bed of my pickup?Re: AF 990 feedback requestedAlso, never had any issue with the slides. We were not shopping for a camper with a slide when we bought our first AF990, but now that we've had it, would never be without it and have had no problems whatsoever with it. On the AF990 you can get into the camper with the slide closed if you're not too stout.Re: AF 990 feedback requestedWe are on our third AF990 (2008, 2012, 2018). They are very well insulated. We've stayed in it in very cold weather in CO, but were usually plugged in to electricity. So we could run the furnace as much as we wanted. It seems a tank of propane lasted more than a week, but we often augmented the furnace with a small ceramic space heater. The fridge and furnace are very efficient and insulation is good, so having two good sized propane tanks, we never ran out of propane before leaving a camping spot. Camping in the cold without hookups you naturally will run low on battery before running out of propane, but even that takes awhile. Never had any issues with the fridge in the slide. The AF990 layout has been around longer than any other RV, so it is tried and true. It suits us well. That said, I'm sure any modern, well-insulated camper with two propane tanks and two batteries will give you similar results.2017 Ford Superduty BedsAny reports on any bed issues from anyone with the 2017 Ford Superduty? We're wondering how the aluminum beds on these trucks hold up to loading and unloading truck campers.Re: Truck camper magazine and Host?bka0721, as usual, you nailed it. Thnx.Re: Yellowstone & Grand Teton's - June 2016 Trip ReportHey bka0721, I saw you in the picture, too, and thought, there he is again, popping up when we least expect it. You know I love the Tetons and Yellowstone and I really enjoyed this trip report. It's great to see the families get out there and really enjoy it. We are doing that in Alaska right now, but looking forward to the Tetons again late in the season after AK and the Yukon. Cheers!Re: Yellowstone / Teton Alternative Camping RecommendationsI don't think any are 50', but with an angle and some overhang over the logs some might look like it. DW and I are not working there this year. But we will camp there on our way to Alaska.Re: Yellowstone / Teton Alternative Camping Recommendationsbka0721 - you nailed it. The Parks will be overflowing this year. Plan ahead. BTW, see you in LC.Re: Yellowstone / Teton Alternative Camping RecommendationsWe have put some pretty large units in Lizard Creek, up to at least 38'. There are several sites that can accommodate the big units, if you use a little care, finesse, and the proper angle and have a good spotter.
