A gasser might be better for the short daily commute to work I have when not towing but I am concerned that I won't be able to pull in the mountains adequately. Gary No worries using a diesel as a daily driver with short commutes...been doing that for 14 years with zero issues. And as you may know, there is no comparison when towing. I've had both and believe me, the diesel is hands down the way to go - especially if you tow in hilly or mountainous areas.Re: Boom goes my fresh water tank....I have been traveling with a full or nearly full fresh water tank on all our trips for almost two decades and never gave it a second thought. That's the way it should be too. Very unfortunate thing that happened to the OP, but at least it happened at home. I just flushed my lines and filled my fresh water tank to the brim today in preparation for our next trip on Tuesday. The tank on our Cougar 28SGS is in the rear of the rig, so no concerns on extra pin weight either.Re: Fueling up at a truck stopMan, a lot of you guys have some good coordination going on with your DW's...that would never work for me ha ha - we are always on different wave lengths so to speak. Also, never had a problem maneuvering at the gas stations with my travel trailer. The diesel pumps are always on the outside islands. Worst thing that I have to deal with is a car blocking my access to the diesel pump and the driver is taking their time in the store. As far as the maneuvering, I would expect it to be even easier now that I have a fifth wheel.Re: Fueling up at a truck stopI try to avoid using the big rig pump areas as they are usually very dirty, somewhat confusing as to where exactly to pull in and pump from, and I don't feel comfortable having my family & dogs getting out in those areas. Don't care that they don't have pay at pump though because most places cut me off at $100 if I use my card, and I don't like having to go through the entire process twice. I just pump once and pay inside. Kwik Trips are my diesel station of choice. They always have one large hi-flow nozzle and one regular car type diesel nozzle at every diesel pump. Clean and friendly place with good prices and nice stores.Re: Branson MO and Eureka SpringsSounds like many nice campgrounds to choose from! I'm interested in those areas for 2015...subscribed to thread and looking forward to more info.Re: Door County WisconsinJust remembered that years ago I did stay at one of the Door County private campgrounds - it was Wagon Trail campground in the northern peninsula on the Lake Michigan side. Couldn't get a site at either of the State Parks that Fall. I remember it being very nice. Fanciest bath houses I ever saw. It is a little out of the way, but that can be a good thing too. Right next to Newport State Park. Oh yeah, and our site was HUGE and private with a gravel pad.Re: Black Tank FlushThanks so much to everyone for shedding some light on this subject for me :-)...this is very helpful.Re: Black Tank FlushOk, my new rig has a black tank flush, which is my first. I am a bit confused by some of the posts. So those of you who leave some water in the black tank to slosh around until you get home, where exactly are you dumping it then? Do dump stations have a water hose with a standard threaded connection that you attach to your tank flush connection? Or do you use your own hose and attach it to a water spigot near the dump station? Some of you multiple flushers seem to be spending an awful long time parked at the dump station...that has to cause a traffic jam on those Sunday mornings when almost everyone is pulling out. Not trying to be a wise guy, but is it really necessary to get the black tank so clean? Just trying to understand and learn here.Re: switching from tent camping to 5th wheelGood to read about all the 5'ver people that prefer the State and National parks for camping. I'm a State Park guy myself...love the large private sites as well as the electric hookups - some even have water hookups! I personally would not camp without electric service. Very nice and quiet atmosphere, and you can surely smell the pines the same as tenting, which I did in the 90's.Re: Cougar X-Lite 28SGSJust purchased a 2015 with the High Country package, which includes the Lippert Ground Control auto leveling system. My local dealer had this one and a 2014 without the HC package. Went back and forth comparing them and settled on the 2015. Dealer sold the 2014 the next day too. Big feeling floor plan for a small to mid-sized rig. Love the length and weight...right in the sweet spot for me. Fit, finish, and options seem a step above others in this class. Taking her out for maiden voyage next week.
