It’s pretty easy to run out of money before you run out of guesses. Good advise. The hardest problem to find is one that is intermittent. The TPS is cheap and easy wouldn't hurt to replace it while I am waiting for the problem to resurface. I will also check the fuel pressure. I have been monitoring the diagnostic codes and all systems are reporting OK.Re: V10 4R100 lost power on a mountain carringb wrote: What I would consider replacing on a preventative basis is the upper radiator hose, and the heater hose that comes out of the intake. These both take most of the heat, so they get weak first. Also check the hard lines going to the rear HVAC. These can corrode in salt states. Yep, I have a slow HVAC leak someplace that nobody seems to be able to find. I have run Mobil 1 in every vehicle I have ever owned and never ever burned a drop of oil. I have a focus with 230k miles and still does not burn oil and runs like the day I bought it. This V10 burns half a quart between oil changes and it drives me nuts. Previous owner probably used Jiffy Lube oil. I flushed the transmission when I bought it and switched that over to Mobil 1 ATF as well. Did the transfer case and rear Diff also.Re: V10 4R100 lost power on a mountainThanks for all the ideas. I did not think of the TPS, that is something to look in to as it happened on hills and flat land and temps were not the issue. I have a transmission temperature gauge and that was not the issue, as it was butt cold out that helped with the temp as well. I have a diagnostic tool and there were not any codes, that is what led me to think mechanical, but you never know. As I stated, this truck (Excursion) does a great job pulling and it is real comfortable. I don't care about the gas mileage really. We are approaching the time when we are going to be doing a lot more long hauls and I really want piece of mind. I started getting the new truck fever a while ago and decided instead of dropping over $50k for a new truck, $8k for new engine and tranny would be a drop in the bucket. However, I do want to identify this problem first.V10 4R100 lost power on a mountainSo I am cruising up the Blue Ridge Mountains pulling my 33 ft TT doing 65 mph, Suddenly the engine bogs down and I have no power. It felt like the torque converter locked in 1 to 1. The transmission would not down shift. I let off the accelerator and then tried to accelerate again and still no power. It has happened three times, twice on hills and once on flat. I have lost a coil pack before and when that happens the engine runs really rough. It didn't feel like that. It feels like the engine just doesn't enough power and the transmission should be down shifting but is in overdrive. When towing I am in tow haul mode overdrive off. I pulled over to the side of the road and eventually I put it back in Drive and pulled out and everything was normal. This vehicle is in great shape but I do not know the history of the power-train. I am considering dropping a new crate engine and transmission in it just for piece of mind. I bought it with 160,000 because it was so clean and in such great shape. I only use the vehicle for towing the TT, it is not my daily driver. Any thoughts or opinions? Thanks for any help.
