All ActivityMost RecentMost LikesSolutionsRe: Roll Call Alaska 2015Made it to Tok last night, and can confirm the road from Destruction Bay to Beaver Creek is extremely poor. Constant frost heaves, road breaks, rolling whoops, construction, etc. By far the slowest leg of our journey and makes the rest of the Alcan look like butter! On the plus side, you'll be going so slow, it will make it easier to spot the local population... Re: Wallydocking in Canada and Alaska ??So far, we've stayed at Walmart in Prince George (grab a spot on the side with full lawn & wifi), and Whitehorse (which is where I'm writing this reply from). As already noted, if you don't need to stay in town for a night, simply grab any number of countless dry camping spots off the road, or pay ~$10 for a lakefront gov't campground. Here is a shot of the Whitehorse Wallyworld last night. Probably 40-50 RV's. Re: Roll Call Alaska 2015Checking in from Whitehorse, YT. Trip has been a breeze so far. Great weather, no mishaps, friendly people! Give us a honk/wave/hello if you see us on the road. No 'roll call' sign but hard to miss. Photo from Stone Mountain Provincial Park in BC... Re: Roll Call Alaska 2015FYI, you can get the TourSaver coupon book for $80 by buying their iphone/android app instead of the physical booklet. Saves $20.Re: BankI would also advise simply using an ATM machine. Would also advise opening a checking account with Charles Schwab. Free to use any ATM worldwide, plus they rebate any fee the atm charges, and they give extremely favorable exchange rates.Re: Whistler BCRon, We are currently staying at Riverside for the winter. I would highly recommend Riverside just for its proximity to town. 2 minute drive/20 min walk to the village. The other park is a ~10 minute drive south. One item to note when you make reservations, only a fraction of the sites are 50amp, so if you require that, make sure you specifically request it. Overall, great park.Re: Roll Call Alaska 2015We're currently in Whistler, BC, and will be heading north mid-may once the ski season is officially done here. SpencerRB, Spencer & Rachel, Ft. Lauderdale, FLBig Rigs Beware Blaine/Surrey Crossing @ Vancouver/SeattleJust a friendly heads up to any large rigs crossing in the Vancouver/Seattle area, avoid the Blaine/Surrey border station. We crossed into Canada last week on our way to Whistler, and choose this crossing since it was the commercial crossing for I5 traffic. We used the passenger car lanes (which we are told is correct), and it was an extremely tight entrance into the toll booths. They direct traffic into zig/zag lanes prior to the entrance, so you have to enter the agent booths (which have large metal/concrete entrance barriers) from a 90* angle. It was beyond tight and we must have had less than 2-3 inches on either side. The border agents were extremely helpful getting us through but suggested we take Peace Arch next time since it is a straight shot through the booths. Just a friendly heads up for anyone looking to cross in the future!Re: Does anyone tow a "sporty" car?The problem is base plate availability for sporty cars that are 4-down capable. Most MH owners tend to go for SUV/Truck/Econo style cars, so the demand for sports car base plates is low. If you aren't tied to a specific car, it's probably easiest to go with something that has mass-produced base plates from Blue-Ox, Roadmaster, etc. Generally speaking, this makes life easier since the engineering has been done for you, and the base plates are relatively cheap. On the other hand, if you have a specific car you want to tow, but there are no mass-produced base plates, you can go the custom base plate route. This will probably run $1-2k from a fabrication shop unless you can get Blue-ox/Roadmaster to do development on your car for a new product line.Re: New Dometic A/C Not Working... Oil EverywhereThanks guys. I have a dometic mobile service tech coming out this afternoon to do the warranty replacement. Nothing like having a brand new a/c fail 1 month in!
