What I want to do now is build a stabilizer out of square tubing and a trailer nose jack. I've found a cheapo deluxo jack that has a pivoting mount that will allow the stabilizer to stay in place during travel. I'll get some tubing and fab up something. JimRe: 5th Wheel Receiver Stabilizer? That's exactly what I'm looking to do. I think I have a design in my head so I'll start there.Re: 5th Wheel Receiver Stabilizer? All good possible solutions but not what I'm looking for. The original stabilizer was stored in the bay and inserted into the receiver after leveling up. No pin was required since friction kept it from falling out and all the work was done without bending, stooping or crawling around on the ground. I'll probably have to fab this up from memory but was hoping to find someone who'd done it to keep me from having to work through the bugs of a first time build. Thanx, Jim5th Wheel Receiver Stabilizer? At the Redwood National Rally earlier this year, we held a "Show & Tell" for people's hacks, brainstorms and other creative solutions to issues we all have. One such idea was a travel trailer tongue jack welded to some square tubing which was inserted into the rear receiver of a leveled fifth wheel. Since the auto level jacks are just behind the wheels, the rear of the trailer can be pretty springy. This guy's device slipped into the receiver and he cranked a little lift onto the hitch, effectively taking the spring out of the unit. Has anyone seen this and might be able to aim me towards plans, drawings or even a photo so I could steal the idea and make one for myself? Thanx, JimFridge IssueI have a 2013 Redwood 36RL with the Dometic double door fridge. The refrigerator has an internal fan that runs most of the time that it's in operation (propane or electric) but does turn off occasionally. Today it started "short cycling" on and off every 5-10 seconds. Switched modes and tried turning it off for a few minutes but the fan continued to cycle even when the fridge was turned off. The only way to stop it was to open the battery disconnect switch but as soon as I powered back up, it began cycling again. I'm stumped. Any ideas? JimRe: Adios Rand McNallyNope. The software starts with a blank sheet and has no import function. It saves the planned trip in some unknown format and then another piece of software (Dock)must be used to effect the transfer. It offers no options to import or export anything other than the original plan.Re: Adios Rand McNallySome very good information but completely off the mark. I am looking for a GPS unit that will allow importing of data from 3rd party software. I have a planner that I like and a GPS that I hate. I'd like to do my trip planning when I have internet connectivity and download to a GPS unit for when I don't. The Rand GPS will not allow for importing any file extensions other than Rand McNally's proprietary one. I believe that the Garmin units will allow the import of .gpx files. I am curious if any Garmin owners import any other files. Hardware issue not software. Thanx, JimRe: Adios Rand McNallyThe Good Sam software (and their discontinued GPS) are made by Rand McNally. The software doesn't have some of the features I want and the GPS units will only allow imports from Good Sam or Rand McNally TripMaker.Adios Rand McNallyI think I'm finished with the Rand McNally RVND 7730. I'm looking for a GPS that will allow me to plan my trip with a 3rd party software and import it into the GPS. Rand McNally will only accept imports from their (crappy) software. We travel in places that don't always have cell service so no apps please. Suggestions? Thanx, JimRe: Woodbutchers?"I think you need to find a quieter hobby unless you are not going to use any of the power tools from that well equipped home shop. I know we wouldn't like to hear power saws, lathes, sanders, shapers, planers, and routers in the site next to us." " X2. Last week we were at a CG and there was a guy there doing some carving. That was really cool until he started using his Dremel tool. I can't imagine someone using power tools at a campsite. " I think you guys have the wrong idea of my plans. I'm not looking to set up a Production Woodshop. A lathe turning greenwood bowls or a scroll saw making intarsia operate as quietly as a TV and certainly quieter than even the Honda generators. Jim
