How that is being enforced, or if it is, I don't know, but it has been officially recognized as a problem.Re: Anyone in a National Park Campground? Open or Closed?Front-country campgrounds at Big Bend NP are open. Been staying at Cottonwood CG (first-come, first-serve). Pit toilets open, water available but notice says no service. No trash pickup. Park's visitor centers closed. Concession facilities open.Re: First trip down Trace to NatchezRoux 61: Great, popular restaurant about 5 miles south of Natchez on the east side of Highway 61. I go there for oysters and beer, but there is a large and diverse menu.Re: Pros and consI absolutely agree with J&J. Dear wife and I have been spending winters volunteering in southwest Texas for the past several years, living in our 24-foot Arctic Fox trailer. Love it. Summers in the southwestern mountains of Arizona and Colorado. I understand that many couples would need a larger RV, but we make ours work for us. Volunteering to "work" interacting with other campers three days a week gets us free hookups in one of the nation's most beautiful areas.Re: Looking for RV park west of Wash DC near train to cityI don't know about the west side, but on the north side is Greenbelt Park, a National Park site (no hookups), convenient to College Park, MD, and the Metro station there (about 10-minutes' drive).Re: First Month Full TimingWe typically spend 3 months volunteering at a national park, 3 months hopping from state and national parks to national forest campsites anywhere from a few days to a week at a time, then 3 more months volunteering at a national park, and so on. Right now, though, we are at a small, convenient RV park near our former home to accomplish annual doctor checkups (DW got a cataract removed too) and see old friends. Enjoying life.Re: RV Park Recommendations / OvernightsGreenbelt Park, just north of D.C. and east of College Park, MD, has a good National Park Service campground convenient to the Metro train and bus service. Reservations through recreation.gov are probably a good idea.Re: Retirement TripIf you don't need hookups, Greenbelt Park, a National Park facility, is ideally situated to the city and Metro stop (College Park).Re: Artic FoxWe love our 2011 Arctic Fox 22H. Bought it used in 2013, excellent condition. We have used it extensively in all seasons and it remains in excellent condition. Of course I don't know about 2007 models.Re: Question on determining campsite size? fla-gypsy wrote: korbe wrote: fla-gypsy wrote: I am not sure why this would be debatable? It's overall length. Nothing else makes any sense or stands up to reason. What? Debatable? Everything is debatable. Especially on a forum that caters to us opinionated folks. :B The debate is now open then~ You guys sure are fun. :B Back on topic: I provide manufacturer's spec for mine (24').
