Front-country campgrounds at Big Bend NP are open. Been staying at Cottonwood CG (first-come, first-serve). Pit toilets open, water available but notice says no service. No trash pickup. Park's visitor centers closed. Concession facilities open.608Views0likes0CommentsRe: Pros and cons
I absolutely agree with J&J. Dear wife and I have been spending winters volunteering in southwest Texas for the past several years, living in our 24-foot Arctic Fox trailer. Love it. Summers in the southwestern mountains of Arizona and Colorado. I understand that many couples would need a larger RV, but we make ours work for us. Volunteering to "work" interacting with other campers three days a week gets us free hookups in one of the nation's most beautiful areas.981Views0likes0CommentsRe: First Month Full Timing
We typically spend 3 months volunteering at a national park, 3 months hopping from state and national parks to national forest campsites anywhere from a few days to a week at a time, then 3 more months volunteering at a national park, and so on. Right now, though, we are at a small, convenient RV park near our former home to accomplish annual doctor checkups (DW got a cataract removed too) and see old friends.
