According to the National Park Service the overall length is 55' so if you're towing make sure you are within the limits. That's why we can't go again as we are right at 60' with our toad. Years ago we did the whole parkway in a 29' Class C pulling a car and were fine, but not now. Would love to do it again but not taking the chance on getting busted for over length. I can't explain the pickup trucks other than maybe trying to warm up the inside first. Those complaining about diesel motorhomes idling before leaving obviously don't have one. Mine has an airbag dump valve that lowers the coach about 6 inches when parked which makes it more stable but also drains most of the air from the tanks. In order to move the vehicle you must build up the air again because the brakes won't release until the air gets to about 70#s therefore you need to let it run to build up the air. I try not to leave too early so as not to upset my neighbors but idling to build air is a must or it won't move. I also can't move my slides while the engine is running so we raise the jacks, build the air so the brakes will release, shutoff the engine, unhook hoses and cords, bring in the slides, then start the engine and move off the spot and away from others to hookup the car.348Views0likes0CommentsRe: RV Parks near Crater Lake National Park
We stayed at Joseph Stewart State Recreation Area which is about 35 miles SW of Crater Lake. It was a beautiful campground and a nice easy drive over to Crater Lake. There is also a little cafe along the way in Union Creek named Beckie's that makes fantastic homemade pies. Bottom line, I finally got an email from the booking site that they would refund my money and a few days later the refund appeared on my credit card statement. All this took over 2 months and I got back most of my money except booking fees and taxes. Don't care so much about the booking fees as I can understand that but the taxes was kind of odd.
