S.C. to Houston
I may attend a conference in Houston this summer. We are thinking of making a trip out of it. We could probably do 2-3 weeks. I am looking for 1. Recommended routes with stops/sites on the way out/back. 2. Where to stay while in Houston. We would like something that is convenient to downtown, has a shuttle to downtown, or is on a public transit route 3. Things to do in Houston and 4. Are there places nearby that we should not miss being that close to them? It would be the 4 of us (2 of which are teenagers ??). We would like to camp somewhere on the gulf with our friends who have never been to the gulf before. They will need lodging others than a campsite as they will not have an rv. Our must haves are Close to the beach Blue ocean/white beaches Can accommodate 38 foot rigs Water Electricity Kid friendly Pet friendly Our would like to haves (however these are not deal breakers) Walking distance to the beach Pool FHU I have looked at the gulf coast state parks in Florida. Sounds like you, in fact, did reserve a specific site. Unicoi used to be one of our favorite place to go with our previous TT. We reserved sites through ReserveAmerica and got specific sites - usually with full hookups. The whole place is pretty wooded and you may have issues with satellite TV if you have a satellite dish. Rob You can not reserve a specific site there now. They have 3 classes of rv sites: 40 ft FHU, 40 ft water/electric, and 30 ft water/electric. You are “guaranteed” a site that fits into the category of what you reserve, but you cannot reserve a specific site ahead of time. We are headed there this weekend. We have a reservation for a 40 ft site no sewer. I hate not being able to reserve a specific site! We hope to do this next summer with our 2 teenagers. We will be able to take 21 days. Is this reasonably doable? Would love your suggestions on routes and itineraries and even cg recommendations. We aren’t really picky about cg’s. We realize camping in the NPs will most likely be dry which is ok for a few days. We are pulling a 38 ft 5 th wheel. I really don’t know where to begin. We were just there MLK weekend. Both camping areas are up and running. A tornado had touched down int the Live Oak area. The tree damage is pretty evident in the Live Oak area. The beach loop looks great. When we were there not all the trails were open. If you like to visit the beach at Botany Bay, you can now only access it in the hours shortly before and after low tide due to beach erosion. We had a great weekend. We are looking to do a mountain trip with 3 other families to celebrate some milestone birthdays in the group. Our needs are... a CG that will keep the kids interested;(They are ages 11-16); Big rig friendly; at least water and electricity; and a fire ring. We tend to prefer public cgs over private, but we are willing to do private as long as they are not huge rv parking lots. This would be a summer trip so water activities are important too.
