I know, 1st world problem. I am wondering how much the cabinet reinforces the nose of the unit? Should I be replacing the cabinet with some "tastefully" corner bracing? Thanks in advance ehSolar panel mounting; screws or toggle bolts?Hello Brain Trust, I am about to add some more solar to the roof. When I did my first panel, I used toggle bolts and just went through the plywood. So the holes were a little large; that's what Dicor is for! My first 6' x 3' panel has four brackets and hasn't blown off in over 20,000 miles of travel. I am using 4" x 2" aluminum angle. My question to you all is can I just use 4 #12 x 1" screws on each bracket, rather than the bulldozer approach of the toggle bolts and still have enough holding power? What is everyone else doing for amounting method? Thanks in advance, RickAntenna mast brackets?Hi all, staring a build on a new to me 5th. I am transferring over my Cell Booster and HAM gear. I have acquired a couple of the 16' extendable "painters poles" to play with as extendable antenna masts. I have seen example of tying additional antennas (wifi booster) to the TV antenna assembly; great idea, but I want to get higher. I am thinking a chunk of 2" X 4' PVC tie-wrapped to the rear ladder and slide the painters pole into it. Not sure what else I can start hanging off with out modifying the unit too much. Open to any ideas that you brainiacs have already done. Pics or napkin drawings appreciated. Thanks, RickDIY automatic transfer switch plans?Hi all, just wondering if any of our learned brethren have designed an automatic Xfer switch. I was an electrician in a past life, so i a not afraid to tinker and I do understand what codes and math are. With the last rig, I did the manual switch over. This rig, I am, looking to be a little more civilized. I searched the web and this site to no avail. Anyone out there accomplished this and willing to share a drawing and some pics? Trailer has 30 amp single phase feed. can't do anything above that. Thanks, RickWiring chases, IE fishing walls, etc+ Cougar 24.4 5thHi all, I am wondering if anyone out there has had experience fishing wiring into the walls/floors/ceiling of a Cougar 24.4 5th wheel of which I am about to take possession. I will be adding: Solar system A few HAM radios, so both decent amount of power and coax for antennas. Maybe solar and antennas in the same run? And stuff I haven't thought of yet. I might be smart to do a few runs of conduit if needed. I would like to future proof as I go as well. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks, RickRe: What is the steepest grade you've climbed?Just finished a back woods trip on northern Vancouver Island. 40km+ or 25 miles of industrial logging road to get to our camping spot from pavement. According to my Garmin GPS on the dash, one of the hills on the way in was showing 31% before I lost connectivity with the birds due to forest cover and at the other end, the drop back down to sea level was 27%. And, yes, the 5th wheel was on the back.Re: Need to add a 110v electrical outletnew TT and I want to add a 110v outlet in the bunk bed area for the grandkids to plug in their Ipad chargers, TV, games, electric blanket, etc. OK, lets back up a bit. First off it's 120v. small point. Now, if it's just another plug to run something like a wall wart for charging mobile device. Just add another outlet. Draw will be negligible. Rule of thumb is 10 devices (lights or plugs on a circuit). Figure out how many devices are on that circuit now before getting to far into this. The electric blanket; that's different. That device will draw 10 amps or better and should be on a dedicated circuit. Depending on the service rating (amp rating of the panel/trailer feed), you might want to think about running that circuit all the way to the outside of the trailer and using a second outlet (circuit) on the power distribution point at the RV park. I am assuming this is shore power and not genie powered? And stranded wire would be recommended if doing a lot of gravel roads. My 1987 5th wheel had solid core lumex and the wires are holding up fine. And yes, I am an electrician.Re: Need to add a 110v electrical outletAn ez-box would be too deep. I would look at the surface mount boxes like this.. Link I have used them in the past.Re: what vacuum do you useHoover Porta Power, small and effective; washable bag and reasonably priced. http://hoover.com/products/details/sh10010/porta-power-handheld-canister/
