We just strung the heat tape along our garden hose and used black electrical tape every 4 inches to hold it to the hose. Then cover the entire thing with 4ft sticks of insulation and make sure each end of those were taped together. Did the same thing to the hydrant. Each year we would get around a week of -15 nights and less than 10 degree daytime highs. Always had water. Even at 5 am in the dark getting ready for work. The hardest spot to insulate for me was where the hose connected to the side of the trailer. For that get a cheap faucet insulator and put the hose through it. Link below. I also got a small roll of fiberglass insulation that is like 4 inches wide to wrap the hose to Hydrant area and handle. http://www.ebay.com/itm/like/390733669441?lpid=82 My heat tape was purchased at the local hardware store and had a thermostat built in. Just make sure the sensor that looks like a button is taped tightly against part of the hose so it knows when to turn on and off. Hope that helps. We were actually quite comfortable in our trailer even in the cold weather. Did you insulate your sewer pipe as well?Re: Did I Make My 5ver Height Illegal?Do you have a "legal" height regulation? Most overpasses for trucks are about 13' 6". Those over the height of the overpass have to go around or different route.Re: Length, wheelbase, state RV parks. imjustdave wrote: Hello everyone. Wife and I currently own a Jayco 5th 30.5 BHS to be exact. measure out to 32 feet. Anyways the kid has moved out and the lightening storm of last year has mad it impossible for the dogs to sleep in the bunk house so as great as our BHS is the 4 bunks are literally storage now. So we have been looking for another 5th wheel. Our friends have a brand new Montana 4 slide rear bunk house measure out at 38 feet. "they have kids still" and tow with a older Ford. Anyways we like to camp in state parks, specifically WA as that is where we live. The sites have "trees" vegetation, privacy ETC which really makes nice and fun to camp at VS private camping places which seem more like a parking lot with row after row of asphalt pads. So as nice as our friends new Montana is, it is impossible for him to park the beast. Yes I have to wiggle mine around some but his seems like he needs a foot ball field of space to park. The site for him last weekend was literally the biggest in the park, and had a pull thru site in front that he had to use in order for him to get it in the site. He drives a 12 car hauler for work, and I used to drive over the road so we are both used to big rigs. Is the 6 foot of difference really that much? We haven't measured the wheelbase. Do Fords really have that bad of a turning radius? I think it is a 99 Ford SRW F350 4 door, 4x4? I have a 06 dodge DRW, 4 door 4x4. I would like a nice "amenities" trailer but I'm a little gun shy right now that I will buy something too big to fit in the parks we prefer to visit. Seems like nice option also = longer. Looked at a Grand Design last week seemed like nicely built, Jayco is another line I would be interested in. So is the 6 feet really that much? when trying to park? Are the trucks playing a role here? Ideas? Trailer ideas? Seems like you answered your own question. Read what you wrote about how difficult a time your friend has with his big one.Re: electrical usageWinter has been to $350 month.Re: Electric Heater Recommendation NeededI drilled a hole in the bottom wall of a slide out. Ran some heavy wire to a receptacle I put in the wall. Put a female plug on the end of the heavy wire. Then I plug a short heavy duty ext. cord into the plug and connect the other end to the 20 amp Plug in the power pedestal. Keeps my main heater, a Lasko ceramic heater, off of the fiver circuits.Re: Truck Tonnage?Where we are for a while yet there are many people that have bought the duce and a half's to tow their fifth wheel down to the "beach" thru the deep sand. Also works good to pull people out that thought their two wheel drive would get them down to the water.Re: Call the weight police, can't believe what I'm looking at!
