We are really considering a camper shell for our truck, or just living with our current situation. As for the comments about tent camping. We use to tent camp and then A couple of us developed a few skin allergies in addition to having seasonal sinus allergy problems. We love to be out doors, but enjoy the comforts of a travel trailer.Re: Not a big enough trailerOh, and yes the kids do all the set up-tear down work. Our trip was to an Indiana state park very near Indianapolis. We have stayed here before and enjoy the state parks for the swimming pools, long days hiking, sight seeing, and geo-caching with the kids. We will keep going. I just was wondering about others experiences.Re: Not a big enough trailerThese are all great responses. I can see how a floor plan configuration can hinder resale. We will probably fix the problems and not change the floor plan. I appreciate all the advice and helpful ideas, and added humor. It's true my kids will always be considered children no matter what age, and they will never be tent kids. The 19 yo daughter packs like a Kardashian for a 2 night trip, but if it means she will go, then hey! I'll find room, for all her necessities. Setting up a make shift outdoor "coffee bar", possibly a camper shell for the truck, and just stepping over bodies doesn't sound so bad, after someone mentioned how short lived these times could be. It's all about the memories!!Re: Not a big enough trailerThanks for all the replies and suggestions. We have many options to throw around,.Re: Not a big enough trailerThanks for the replies. The tent has been tried, and they all were inside rather quickly. Not to mention some of the state parks tend to be over run with rougher crowds. I'm not being judgmental, but just this past weekend my husband and son got in the truck and slowly started to pull away from our site and 2 younger kids (preteen?? ) purposefully stopped on their bikes in front of them and gave them this scowl and put their hands up , as to say "what are you gonna do about it." I can't believe how people behave toward others. Music blaring and dogs barking all during daytime hours, and I thought camping was suppose to be relaxing. So much for thinking. I'm not going to let others ruin our family fun times, so we ignore the behavior and sleep inside. The truck cab is an idea! Not a big enough trailerHere is our dilemma, we bought a new 2009 31red heartland north trail a few years ago, with a loan. (So we still owe). We like most things about the trailer. But due to a slow leak the floor in the family living area became soft and will be getting replaced after the camping season is over. The floor plan use to be sufficient for my family, but it seems we always take extra kids and that makes it miserable for my husband and I come morning time. I just want to sit down and drink a cup of coffee, but there are literally bodies everywhere. Not to mention, the takedown and set up they have to do just to lay down. We have a 19yo daughter, that goes with us when her work and school allow her time, and our 12 yo boy that would take his whole entourage if we allowed, lol. He usually has at least 1 friend, and our 2 nieces his age are usually along. Trading up on a bunkhouse is not an option due to the damage. So we have tossed around the idea of taking the master bedroom and converting it to a bunk room. We are not afraid of diy, we have built houses, and extensive high end remodels. My question is for the "very knowledgeable on all things RV related forum members" are we crazy to think this is acceptable? And if it is acceptable, will moving the kids to the hitch end help to eliminate some of the added wiggle we experience at night during sleeping hours. Please don't hesitate to throw in other possibilities. Except for pitch a tent. They aren't tent kinda kids, and I'm not a tent kinda mom. LolRe: Self Adhesive Kitchen Tile Mod 2013We just completed the backsplash mod using peel and stick gel tiles from Lowes for $7.98 a sheet. We used 17. Excuse the mess. I also painted the fridge with magnetic primer and then black paint. The fridge had the wood grain paper stuff, and I needed somewhere for the magnets from state parks we visit. These were 2 easy mods that made a huge impact. It feels like a new travel trailer! Except for the matchy fabric, wallpaper, and valances. What's a girl to do, while the hubby is at work:@Re: Best route~Effingham IL to Grand CanyonThank you all for the replies!! The canyon pics are great!Best route~Effingham IL to Grand CanyonLet me start off with " yes, I know I'm crazy". After seeing the pics of the family with the twin boys making there trip to the canyon, we have decided to do the same!! We loved their pics and plan on stopping in many the same places. I know, I know, monkey see monkey do, but hey, it's not a bridge and no jumping involved!! Lol We are planning a 2 week round trip to Grand Canyon the first 2 weeks of June 2015. No, I'm not a teacher, so I don't get 40 days. Lol!! We are traveling with 4 kids, youngest is 9. We plan on squeezing in as much sightseeing as possible. We are pulling a 32ish ft travel trailer, and we are open to any and all ideas for all aspects of traveling with this many kids. Advice on, where to stay, when to stop, meal planning, and ways to keep my sanity are greatly appreciated. We are mostly local weekend campers, this is a first for us. My family is- me and hubby, our dd19, and ds11. We are bringing my sister, and her 2 dds 13, 9. I realize my dd is not really a kid,but she would much rather hang out with us than kids her age, and I'm fortunate for that. This is a good group of kids who get along great, so I want to make this memorable for all of us. Our ds, and my nieces are very active in all things related to sports, and as much as I would love to plan my vacation according to "the best time to see this or that", that's not gonna happen. But I feel this vacation is a memory maker for our families. We traveled together to Disney 4 years ago, and these kids get a little sad when they talk about how much fun that was and why we haven't done it again. (I'm still growing my hair back from that trip, but not because it wasn't fun. I'm the mom aka, meal-planner, bank teller, finder of all things lost, including children... enough said, right?!?) But all in all, it was an awesome time for a lot of little kids who had just experienced some really rough and trying times, and I am grateful for the opportunity to give that to them. So, can you all help me and my crazy family make this trip a great success with your your abundance of "all things related to traveling by way of wheels on the ground" knowledge.
