All ActivityMost RecentMost LikesSolutionsRe: Hwy 54 in Kansas vs Hwy 56Both are 2 lane until you get to Emporia or Wichita. We were on both within the last 5-6 years. Pavement wasn't too bad for the most part. Lot of small towns that speed limit drops for but we still made decent time pulling 35 ft 5er. I had to plan fuel stops as I do not have extra tank but found diesel no problem on either. Lot of tractor trailers on both routes but they were always courteous and did not impede us. Passing lanes kinda rare as I recall but never felt that was a big deal. All the farm/ranch equipment will pull off for you to pass. We are both from Eastern Kansas so either route is "local". We find it scenic and nostalgic. I find the KDOT sight very up to date on listing road construction. We check it every time we head west which is most of the time. Research it within a week or so of departure and you will see anything that might cause grief. Hope you have a good trip through and try the BBQ.:B GregRe: Pantry Road TripsNora Mill Granary in Helen, GA. is very much worth the stop. GregRe: 1/2 Inch Drive Corded or Battery Impact WrenchI spent 33 years with a company that sold to Commercial contractors. DeWalt and Milwaukee are the top 2 brands used. Choose one or the other. Once you have a charger and couple batteries you can buy new "bare" tools. Those do not come with charger or battery. Saves a lot of $. And you can get new with warranty. Milwaukee has the larger variety of tools including lawn but DeWalt is adding more monthly. Either one works well. Do make sure and have at least one 4-amp hour battery or higher. Some tool types use up battery life fast. Love my cordless jig saw but it drains a 2-amp battery fast, ditto the recip saw. I have DeWalt but have used a friends Milwaukee small impact driver and it is amazing. GregRe: Tire pressure monitor systemsHad a Tire Minder for 11 years. Detected air leak twice. Did not help with a catastrophic tire tread separation. Tire exploded before alert could occur. Aside from that it monitors pressure and temps very well. If the VHB tape is going over a rubber roof the mechanical connection is only as strong as the adhesive bond between rubber and wood. The VHB will likely Never fail. However, the wind uplift could cause the rubber roof adhesive to fail. We have all seen that trailer coming down the opposite side of the highway with the giant air bubble beneath. I would not risk having an 8 square foot kite peeling my roof off. Could be a problem for traffic behind too. GregRe: Are Butyl Tapes Equal?3) Pure butyl tape. The most expensive but the best choice. It sticks very well to all surfaces, never hardens or crumbles and remains pliable for years. And its a bear to remove. That's a plus, not a negative. Correct. Sika Corp makes the butyl tape that major corporations specify for their applications. Insider knowledge so I cannot name them but Appliance and Automotive companies use only Sika. Another domestic manufacturer is located in Minnesota and theirs would work too. Butyl tape is not supported by any membrane. It's an industrial strength putty that will last for years as long as it is sandwiched between 2 surfaces. Greg
