Great car, drove it 305k, and sold it in 4 days parked in front of my home for $4,950.00 in '99. That straight five cylinder configuration was jut a bad-ass_ engiine, nary an engine problem, ever! But as to mileage, it would get 30 mpg over the road at 65 mph. And 24 mpg around town, not bad for a 3,600 lb. car. BTW, I had the turbo air-intake, set screw "advanced" by the shop foreman @ Park Place Mercedes-Benz in Dallas, and it ran as strong as I wanted it to. Even when the A/C compressor was on!:) Diesel on!Re: Diesel vs gas...................... kennard04 wrote: Kennard04 My 3.0 liter Mercedes S-class, turbo diesel with half the weight, and half the engine size got 23-ish mpg, my non-turbo 240D got close to 28. If your S-class MB diesel isn't getting at least 30-32 mpg over-the-road, there's something wrong with your diesel Mercedes-Benz motorcar. The 240D @ 28 mpg is also a little short of the 30mpg number. My '99 E300TD gets 32-34 mpg @ 75 mph over-the-road, and 28 mpg city/highway, puttering around town. t didn't start getting 34 mpg 'til I had over 60K on the odometer. :) The 11-12 mpg #s sound great for you guys pulling 11K-12# TTs over-the-road, at reasonable speeds.:) Hoping my 7.3 PSD will "loosen-up," and give me a little better mileage after it gets maybe 50K+ on it too. :)Re: Diesel vs gas...................... jd01z71 wrote: We just got back from Bristol, we camped in a campground w/ approx 1500 campers/RV's. Guess what the majority of tow vehicles were.....You guessed it DIESEL. I wonder why so many experienced campers choose diesel over gas. We must just love to throw our money away huh. The next time you go to a big event/ campground just look around. Because diesel owners save every day their diesel is in use, and they get all the money back on sale/trade day. :) From the puny pick 'em up truck in your sig., what do you pull, a pop-up?! LOL!
