All ActivityMost RecentMost LikesSolutionsworking on road with CDLAt 55 I was laid off because of 9/11. No jobs so wife quite her job & we went on the road doing hearing test per OSHA. I loved the job got to go in the back door & see how America is made, worked jobs as few as 2 up to 12,000 yes took between 3/4 mo. Wife pulled our 5th wheel & I pulled the hearing trailers with an FL80, M2, 3500 Dodge & Chevy so I had to have a CDL. South Dakota said U can't have a CDL with a PO box you have to have a hard address. So we bought 2 lots from the golf course in Scotland & there are houses on both sides. Have not checked but think U could be able to build a slab for your 5er/RV. Have had a lot of fun telling folks I live on a golf course in Scotland. We are about done RVing as we are getting old & have gotten a house near most of our kids, grandkids & great grandkids.Re: Dollar General grocery? In Rose Hill, KS the dollar general closed it's small store & took over a closed wal-mart family market & it is a full grocery store with gas. Only Dollar General I have seen with gas pumps. Don't know if wal-mart left all the coolers but it looks like it but was not in it as family market.Re: Why no over 40-foot trailers?Space Craft RV Makes a Custom 57-Foot Fifth Wheel Trailer with 7 slides & weighs 37,000 pounds dry. Biggest I have seen is 53' that a Carney had for his home & office which was in the back, it had slides but do not remember how many. Do not think I have hijacked, yes Space Craft does use a fifth wheel hitch, but are built on a 53' flat bed trailer frame. As it is all one level no stairs in side, so does that make it a fifth wheel or a trailer?Re: Natchez Trace North to SouthOnce thing to watch out for on the trace, the speed is 50. Law enforcement will send one vehicle then 10 min. later after you kick it up a little #2 & they got you! Also just a couple hundred yards off the north end you got to stop at the Loveless cafe for chicken. The biscuits with jams/preserves, apple & pumpkin butters are to die for, they are proud of there biscuits & will give you more biscuits wanting you to buy some of the jams etc. Oh yes a must while in Tupelo you got to stop by & see Elvis child hood home also read the walls.Re: Kansas TurnpikeIf you don't want to take Kansas Turnpike you can by pass it. Looks like you will be coming down 135. So you can get off on 47th street go west-right to Broadway/US81 then south-left to US166 just north of South Haven you go east-left to I35 first free exit going south. Or go on into South Haven keep going south on US177 to Braman OK & get on I35 there. It will take a little longer then taking turnpike but not a lot.Re: Fuel Discounts - The Flying J QuestionI stopped stopping at FJ when they went broke & Pilot took them over as I do not like Pilot. Also I do not stop at BP as the gas handle are green & diesel is black. On our way to AZ this winter used gas buddy & filled up at Walmart for 2.09 the truck stops were in the 2.60's to 2.70's. Got a 70 gal tank so I saved around 50 bucks.Re: Rear racks ResearchA few years back ran into a guy that built race cars. He had an arctic fox 5er & moved axle back so the front axle was where the rear axle was & had beefed it up. They had 2 arctic cat ATV's stacked one on top the other on the back of there rig.Re: Boondocking~ Simply way to add water ideas?A funnel in the back of your truck may help, or get one of those little pumps you put in your cordless drill? If your going to boondock you may want to take a spit bath or use baby wipes to save water, & use paper plates, cups to save on water.Re: I 40 east--route up to Branson?Well if your rig is not to big straight up 7 is a scenic route & you need to stop at Petit Jean state park. Then at Russellville a real good hamburger could be best in Arkansas at I 40 & 7 NW corner CJ's Butcher boy. Some folks may tell you whatta burger but frozen meat & FF shake premix, not Tx whataburger. The hamburger at CJ's Butcher boy meat ground fresh every day & real taters.Re: Branson to Paducah KYWell if you are on a bike 160 is a fun ride. So take 65 up to 60 east it is a great road now, you do NOT want to cross the Miss river on 60! Take I 57 NE get off on first exit past the Miss river & go south through Cairo then back on 60 across the Ohio river as it is ok. It is only a few miles out of your way & worth it if you like the mirrors on your rig. I take 62 in KY which is a slow 2 lane road. Now on your trip you will go past 2 lambert's one at Ozark MO. & #2 Sikeston MO. I think Sikeston has better food. If you have never been lambert's is a must stop. If you stop at Ozark get there at 10:30 unless you want a 2 hr. wait as they get at least 10 busses a day going to Branson. Sorry forgot at Wickliffe Ky we would take 286 to 62 still slow 2 lane road.
