I plan to stay at an RV park in north Surrey and then drive into Vancouver with my truck. There's no way that I'd try to take my 5th wheel into the city.Crossing the US/Canada Border - tight driving?I plan to take my 36 ft 5th wheel to the greater Vancouver, BC area from Seattle. Having driven by car many times, I know that there are tight turns and barriers to drive through. Which entry point is the most user friendly for maneuvering a large 5th wheel and pickup? Also, are there special lanes for RV's or does one use the auto or truck lanes? Thanks.Re: Road insuranceDO NOT PURCHASE GOOD SAM ROADSIDE ASSISTANE!! We did and were left stranded. I haven't heard a word from them in the 5 weeks since it happened. I had to arrange for and pay for my own towing even though I have GOOD SAM coverage paid until 2017. As far as they know, we are still broken down at the side of the road. TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE. Be forewarned!!Re: Keystone quality ?We have numerous problems with our 2013 Cougar 331MKS - mostly minor but problems with the control panel have been persistent. We even had an electrical fire in the front storage area related to the control panel. Thankfully that happened while under warranty. Like another person said, I would probably buy another but with a longer warranty.Re: rain leaking thru slideWe had a problem slide leak above the dining table in our then new 2013 Cougar 331MKS (opposite side from the stove). We took it back to the dealer several times. And, next time out in the rain (we live in the Seattle area; it rains here!), the leak was back. They said they did negative pressure checks, blamed us for not checking for cracked caulking, etc. But, every time it rained after the dealer sad they had fixed it, it leaked. So one day in the rain I looked at the slide and water seemed to pool in a certain area against the seal. So I brought the 5th wheel back to the dealer. What did they do? They said that the roof backer board was warped so they replaced the entire slide roof at no cost to us. I asked why they didn't look at that to begin with. I was told that they try cheaper options first. So, I was stuck cleaning and drying the interior several times, driving it back and forth to the dealer, and them spending time (and their money) on fixes that did not address the problem. The moral of the story: be persistent with the dealer/repair facility and research on your own if you want a positive result.Re: Picking up 5'er tomorrow...what will I need to buy?Congratulations! Hope you enjoy it. When we got our last year, there were several things that we got right away: 1.50 amp surge protector to protect the electrical system. You never know what you will encounter at a park. 2. Water flow pressure regulator for the water intake hose. 3. A water hose. These are white not like a regular garden hose. 4. Hose to empty the gray and black tanks. We got a clear connector between the hose and the connection on the 5th wheel. That way we can see when the black tank is empty of debris.(Not fun, but part of the 5th wheel experience. 5. Chocks for the wheels. We didn't want ours to roll away while camping. 6. A 50amp to 30 amp adapter for those campgrounds that don't offer 50amp service. 7. RV toilet paper. The stuff at home should not go into the RV toilet. 8. RV black tank chemicals. 9. Clip board and pen: to write down all of the things that need to be fixed during the warranty period. We have a Cougar by Keystone and found that quality control wasn't their best feature. After having a few things fixed early in, we have not had any problems since. I hope this helps.Re: Rear kitchen. We have a 2013 Cougar 331 MKS which has a rear kitchen. We have driven over 7500 miles and have had no problem at all. I think it is all in the suspension. We like the rear kitchen because it is not the first thing you see when entering the 5th wheel. We think entering into the living room area makes it feel more like home.Re: Electrical Fire -- WARNING TO KEYSTONE OWNERSKeystone told our dealer that a relay stuck together and there was carbon build up that developed on it. This cause the short that set the fire. They are supposed to send a new circuit board and have authorized clean up and repair of damage. I still do not know what caused the relay to stick. Basically I am left wondering if this could happen again.Re: Electrical Fire -- WARNING TO KEYSTONE OWNERSAs for the ongoing saga: Keystone flew a representative out from the factory in Indiana. Lippert, manufacturer of the circuit board, also sent out a representative. They had not seen anything like it and spent 4 hours going over it. The Lippert representative took the circuit board back so their company could do microscopic analysis. Contrary to one of the posters, it wasn't caused by throwing tools around.Re: Electrical Fire -- WARNING TO KEYSTONE OWNERSWe plan to have additional fire extinguishers when we get our 5th wheel back as well as adding a smoke detector in the battery compartment.
