All ActivityMost RecentMost LikesSolutionsRe: Lonely Dell Ranch Glen Canyon Arizona We've been there numerous times ... have also seen California Condors along the Canyon as well. Not crowded and a nice area to spend a few days ... Lots of hiking and views. Re: any good truck camper forums out there? Yeah, been a member of Irv2 for years. Might check into Lance as well. Although before the change, RV.net was the place to read and find info. Re: any good truck camper forums out there? You can find my smiling face at a campsite or on my website. I'll still stop in occasionally because there is more knowledge here than anywhere else I've found. But, eventually that will perhaps disappear as the long-term folks quit coming ... like they say, if if works don't fix it. Well, it worked and they broke it. Happy camping anyway ... We pretty much get out of camping here in Florida unlike the majority of states that can camp in summer. Toooooooo hot and muggy, so it means sitting in an A/C camper instead of enjoying the local areas. Re: any good truck camper forums out there? I usually came here once or twice a day ... just enjoyed reading the posts, and get answers if I have an issue. Now, occasionally drop in just to see if it's fixed. IT AIN"T. So my visits drop off more and more. Soon M44 will be gone completely. Am on several other forums - not camper - and none are as disappointing as this one has become. Been nice knowing you guys - happy camping to all. M44 Re: Tailgate Removal Seems like GM makes it difficult for thieves, but impossible for owners. I got the lock out and will look at it to see how easy I can make it to do everything that makes the tailgate easy to remove. I'll need to do it every time I put my truck camper in the bed. I may just leave it off, and build a end-rack to keep things in the bed when I need it. easy to install, easy to removes. I've driven Rv's over fifty years with no 'back-up camera', so won't miss it when I don't have it. Re: Tailgate Removal I lubed it up, wiggled it around - twice - second time, it came loose and out. So that problem is solved. Now I have to lower the spare tire to get to that disconnect. Everyone once in a while, or maybe more often, truck manufactured come up with what I call a bone-head improvement - this is one. Nearly impossible to get to the disconnect to remove the tailgate. One answer here was to buy an extension, which I tried, but so far - only fits up to 2019 Chevy. So will keep searching or have one made if that's possible. Truck campers need tailgate off and on more than other types RV, so it becomes a PITA to do it the way it's set up now. I'll find a fix somehow. But my camper is on the truck more than off, so that helps. Re: Battery Charging Yeah, I disconnect camper wire from the truck whether we have 110v or not. So, it only drains the camper battery for camper use. Propane Fridge, propane stove, propane heater (Two tanks - we hardly every use it all). All lights are LED, and we shut down for sleep fairly soon when dark arrives, and we wake up when daylight arrives. We've been truck camping since 2002, so have it down pretty well. Crossed the country five or six times, a few months trip at a time, mostly shoulder seasons, and summer in out of the way campgrounds - not crowded Re: Battery Charging Talked to Battery guy - bought a 90Ah SLA battery. Seems the cost for AGM or other options made it the best option. We're retired and don't boon-dock nearly as much as we once did - and most Florida and SE-USA campgrounds have WE ... so less likely we will need the extra power supply. We use very limited power at this point (all LED) and we do not watch TV or use much E-power except charging phones - laptops - camera batteries. We usually hit the sack shortly after dark, and up with the sun. I was just exploring options to see what is out there - equipment changes so frequently, we like to keep track. Thanks for the info y'all ... M44 & Genie Re: Tailgate Removal The drop in bed came with the truck- Dealer said it had a bed liner, and I assumed "spray in" which I intended to get, but not the same. I may remove it after a while,, but will see how it handles first with the bed mat on it. I can actually see the camera connector, but it's too tight to reach. That's why I tried to lower the tire, and found the lock stuck. So will get to that in the next few days and go from there. Will try WD40 first - it works on nearly every thing but dinner. Re: Tailgate Removal Yeah, might be stuck -- I'll lube it up a bit as suggested earlier too. I try to look over the tire and it's kinda blocked with wires. First thing I did was remove the plate, and it's still a tight squeeze. My 2015 HD had the disconnect in a different place, right beside the tire and it was easy to reach - it was about an inch and a half circle plug and cap. This 2024 is above the tire and about four inches long by 3/4 inch, and seems to have release clips on it. Quite different than I've seen. I'll try lubing it and lowering the tire a couple inches is all it needs to reach in - at least it looks that way. Thanks for the responses, both of you -- will let you know the outcome and try to get a couple photos ... Thx -- M44 BTW: I see you have Happi Jacks tie-downs - which I had for years, but just put Torklift on this time. What is that at the back - is that an antenna ... and what do you use it for?? Looks like a drop-in bed with a bed mat on top. I got the same thing .... that factory drop in slides stuff around easily - rubber bed mat works much better.
