Is helping us make a good choice!!!!!Need opinions .....Drive the RV home?Hello fellow RV folks. Looking for an opinion. My family and I are from Northern Maine. We have traveled to California with our 2004 Forest River Sierra 27' 5th wheel RV (is not a 4 season rv) Family and I are getting a bit homesick. Was thinking to drive home. Any thought? I had studded snow tires on my 4x4 truck but removed the studs because they are against the law in most of the states out west. Worried about the roads with the RV. We could store the RV and then just head back home doing the hotel thing. I was just thinking it was worth the post to get some experienced ideas. Thanks a bunchRe: Electric Jack for 5th wheelok so an update....If i put some pressure on the motor by placing a wedge between the motor and the rail, it works...I just have to put continuous pressure when I go up...Re: Electric Jack for 5th wheelactually I was able to raise it only so far until it started to click...then when I used a pair of channel locks to turn the bar manually (just a little) I could then use the button for just one more turn...again and again until it was high enough to disconnect the trailer. Now I have it disconnected so I can use the truck tomorrow. Is it possible to change the motor and or gear set up while the trailer is supported by the legs and not attached to the truck? Am worried if I start messing with it that the trailer will fall. what keeps the legs extended...the motor, or?Re: Electric Jack for 5th wheelbummer...really don't have an address to use to get a rebuild kit as we cross the country, and it sucks not being able to remove the truck from the RV. One guy had a motor for $325.00 and then labor of $75 to put it in. That sounds excessive to me though...what to do....thinking....Re: Electric Jack for 5th wheelyes moves with no pressure....what is involved in removing the cover? If I had to do it manually, is that even possible? Thanks a ton!Electric Jack for 5th wheelHaving an issue with our electric jack on the 5th wheel. When raising it..pressure on it... it starts to click and won't raise up. If I use some channel locks and turn the bar a bit..then press the button..it will raise a bit more and click again. Any thoughts? Someone said it might be the batteries but I do have quite a bit of battery power, I think. What should I do? Thanks!Re: Hi all..hitting the road in 2 weeks. I've heard others recommend keeping cabinets open to your space so the heat can get inside to the pipes running inside the cabinets. If you have tank heaters that would help also. Probably once you are in VA and NC you should be Ok at this time of year. Thats a great idea too. We just decided to hotel it in NY too...just to be safe. I purchased a Lasco 200watt ceramic for the storage where most of the water lines are... Getting excited now. Should leave Madawaska on Saturday or Sunday. Really a big help joining this group. I hope I will be able to give some helpful guidance to others here in the future too...Re: Hi all..hitting the road in 2 weeks. rekoj71 wrote: I would definitely think that if those 6 batteries were fully charged you could easily last a couple of days if it's just operating the little freezer. 200w solar kit is a little low for 6 batteries but could be enough to keep them topped off if you aren't draining them down real low. If you are using the furnace on the batteries, the blower will help drain them too but 6 topped off batteries is quite a bit more than most people have when they boondock for a night. Thanks Rekoj71 We will be plugged in at the campgrounds in NY and PA but then will have some possible boon docking in VA and NC...the hole where 1000 trails does not have any campgrounds...just to keep on the economical side. We will keep going south from there and then west...Re: Hi all..hitting the road in 2 weeks. Are you in a 4 season rig? We are in a 2004 Forest River 27' Sierra. I have no idea if it is considered a 4-seasons rv, but it will become one....Just added a good off grid system in it today. I will have to make it work... We will be in Lancaster PA for 2 nights...
