Considered gas briefly but Diesel just makes more sense. This is going to be our long term truck. I likely never would have sold the 2019 F450 but 2022 made a 3 year old truck with 30k miles worth more than I paid for it. So sold it and looked for F550's. Ford had 0 inventory anywhere. Ram had many to choose from. Re: Lost the old rig time to rebuild Having Liquid spring suspension on the ram really made it much nicer to travel in, both empty and full. When empty on stock suspension a hill with washboard was sketchy, with LS it was easy driving. Its super expensive, but we planned to keep that truck for the long haul. Unfortunately not our decision to swap trucks. So We are going to do it again on the F450. Our 2019 F450 rode like a tank, and the new one is just the same. Part of me wanted to go for gas and better possible mileage, but in the end, we wanted an up trim truck and stability. F450 is the most stable pickup truck out there for a larger camper IMO. Diesel it is again. Re: Lost the old rig time to rebuild Our ram had LS suspension and it was a game changer, from leveling at the camp site, to smoothing out the road either loaded or unloaded. Night and day difference. Re: Lost the old rig time to rebuild Yes a pickup. Found a platinum without a moon roof. Rides like a truck, needs liquid spring to smooth it out. Re: Insurance for F-550 1-1/2 ton I was paying $2600 a year for my 5500. State Farm. Re: Lost the old rig time to rebuild Picked up our new F450. First 200 mile trip at 75mph got 17mpg. Thats empty. I know loaded we will get around 8 to 12 depending on wind and terrain. So nice to be back in the roomy cab of a Ford superduty. The ram was nice, but passenger foot space was limited due to the transmission hump. Re: Lost the old rig time to rebuild I was able to find two 2025 F350 Platinum gassers discounted pretty good. Also one 2026 gas F350 platinum still on order. So not completely impossible to find, but clearly don't sell well Re: Lost the old rig time to rebuild Our Ram would get up to 12mpg with the camper on it. Sadly it was t-boned by an inattentive driver and totaled. Now we are arguing with insurance. Finding comps for a uptrim laramie 5500 is almost impossible. They only found two 4500's for comps. Re: Lost the old rig time to rebuild Thanks, we have had diesels for over a decade. Going to a gas dually seems to enter unicorn territory. I think we are going to go F450 so the point is moot now. Diesel is the only option. Your truck and camper look great btw. Lost the old rig time to rebuild We are moving from a Ram 5500 to a F350. Insurance was too high on the "commercial truck" Considering a Gas over Diesel. More payload would be nice and the savings of a Gas vehicle over diesel is not small. Anyone have thoughts on going the gas route and hauling a heavy truck camper. Probably a Arctic Fox 1150 wet bath.
