Oh dear, what have I done!Re: Not Happy witn new Tiffin Harold Fairbanks II wrote: It doesn't help anyone or anything to come across as a d*ck. Hey, hey now. Let's not drag the ducks into this discussion! It's already veered so far off topic that I guess I really shouldn't be surprised when wildlife gets pulled into the fray. I can understand the original poster's dissatisfaction with the brand. I mean, aren't the prices given for a new coach high enough that we'd expect them to be ready for a vacation as soon as they've been prepped and delivered to us? Would you allow the same latitude for quality if you had just picked up a new car costing the same amount? The guy (or gal?) was upset, and vented. Some folks here own the same brand coach and somehow felt offended when the build quality was called into question. Are y'all really that thin skinned? Good heavens. We own a Winnebago. I see where people complain about the windshield rust issues and other similar problems - and then try to second guess the designers for their choice of materials or construction methods. I don't let those comments bother me. I know that I don't own a top-of-the-line motor coach, but hey, it suits my needs.Re: ChassisMaybe a better question is why buy new? Personally, I'd let someone else take the initial depreciation hit and apply the savings towards a comprehensive service plan and put the rest of the savings in an account for upgrades, maintenance and repairs (deductibles).Re: Uniroyal tiresUni, Roy, and Al appreciate your business! I'm sure that the tires will be fine. Just make sure that they are the proper weight rating (Load Range/Plies) and keep them inflated to what the manufacturer recommends based on your loading. I see lots of Class 7 and 8 trucks with them.Re: Average or Common Markdown % off MSRP on Used MotorhomesIf you like no-hassle browsing, PPL has three lots in Texas. The coaches are unlocked during the day, and you are free to browse to your heart's content. I don't know if it would be worth the trip for you though. We were able to negotiate a little over $2 on our purchase.Re: Who's in charge? Our slides and hydraulic levelers are powered from the single chassis battery. Coming from fifth wheel and TT campers, we were surprised to find that out. Oh, and we figured that out the hard way. The single coach battery on our last 5'er handled the super slide quite well. I would prefer to have the slides and levelers powered from the chassis battery. If I need to run the slide out for any reason I have to run into the house to get the keys and start the MH up just to run the slide out. It would be much simpler if I could just turn the coach batteries on and plug it up to shore power.Re: Our first motorhome question. strudeau wrote: By definition, a Class A Gas Motorhome is not a Coach. A Coach is defined as follows: Motor Coach A vehicle that is built upon a commercial truck or bus chassis. Not just a motorhome, these are the higher end of mobile living. These include conversion buses. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the F-53 is a commercial truck chassis. Just like the Workhorse, they could be underneath your favorite big brown delivery truck.Re: smell gasoline in back of coachAlthough I'm talking about the other end, isn't there a recall out for the fuel clips on the 8.1L GM Vortec in the Workhorse chassis? It may be something to look into while you're tracking down other leads.Re: Our first motorhome question.Yeh, we have just gone through the having the same epiphany ourselves. After getting used to the stable ride and (comparatively) nimble cornering of our diesel pickups hauling fifth wheel campers, it was an eye opener to drive a Class A gas coach on the Ford F-53 chassis. Do some research on the "Cheap Handling Fix" as a good start. To me, the next best bang for your buck is a rear track bar (or Panhard bar). There are also SumoSprings and oversized sway bars. Try one thing at a time, starting with the least expensive and working your way up.Re: Need ideas of where to liveAustin?
