Our upcoming vacation finally got me going on it. The existing gray tank was always to small, especially for 4 of us and 2 being female. I found a tank on E-Bay that would work. Bought some angle iron from the local metal supply store and went at it. Below is the before image, the only place I had to put a large enough tank to make it worth it was between the axles, the cheap tank on E-Bay fit perfect. Below is the after image from the rear looking towards the old tank. The axle was slightly in the way for a straight run of the pipe to connect to the existing pipe, so I played it safe and put in a flexible hose section at that point so there would not be any extra stress on the hard plastic pipe at the point. The Original tank claimed to be 36 gal but only held about 27, and I added 36 more. Tonight I did a test with 5 gallon buckets and the 2 held 62 gallons, that should help. I still need to add a vent hose. The guy at a local RV repair shop suggested I just run a little hose up into the wheel well, as long as it is higher then the tank. Right now it just has a vent hole drilled at the top edge. My costs were: $104 Tank $45 + 59 shipping $33 Angle Iron $18 plumbing parts $155 TotalRe: Cool Mods - Thread restored 10/18/2012This last week I completed another mod. I wanted to add a small rack to my rear bumper to carry some lightweight items like some firewood or the kids RC cars/toys. I got some angle iron and the help of a friend with a welder and added this weekend. My bumper is not the strongest in the world, but it is all steel. I can stand on the rear edge of the rack with my 200 lbs and I only get a slight flex in the bumper closer the the middle/spare tire side. The other side is attached right by where the bumper is attached to the frame and is very strong. I may have to get a piece of plywood to fill in the base if I decide to carry anything that will not be in the Rubbermaid tubs, but I'll worry about that when it comes up.Re: Cool Mods - Thread restored 10/18/2012The toolbox on the frame took the place of the battery holder that was there before so I just used the same holes and the larger machine bolts/screws that were there. The only thing I added was some washers inside the box so the heads could not pull through. I put some bolts in the existing holes, lined up the box where I wanted it and hit the bottom of the box with a hammer in the inside near where I figured the bolts would be. Where ever there was a bump, I knew where to drill. The box is a "slim" version (12") for small trucks and just barely fits to leave room to raise the weight dist. hitch arms. Inside the box I lined the part where the batteries are with some 1/2" plastic dense foam I had from some packing material so the batteries would not rub. I also cut a 3/4" board to the exact width of the box and drilled and screwed it into place to hold the batteries in place.Re: Cool Mods - Thread restored 10/18/2012In the last couple of weeks, I have done so many mods they would fill a page. I decided to just put them on my family website for all to see. My Mods Most my mods are for storage optimization. After doing so many and getting into almost ever inch of my new TT I feel I really know it better and will be able to maintain it better now. One thing I learned is that they don't know what a vacuum is at the factory. I bet I sucked out more then 2 lbs of sawdust, cutout scraps, trim, and extra screws, etc. from the areas they figure we will never see.Re: Cool Mods - Thread restored 10/18/2012We brought home our new Aerolite 21QS in July and I have been itching to get started on some Mods. Finally this weekend I was able to dig in. The pantry is 23" deep so you could hardly get to items in the back and everything bounced around a lot with every trip so I built some slide out shelves to fix the problems. I used some scrap wood I had around so my only cost was the $15 each for the full extension drawer slides from Home Depot. I am also working on quieting the water pump, several storage optimizing projects including adding a diamond plate box to the A frame hitch area. I'll post each upon completion.
