A little on the expensive side but worth the conveniences.Maine to NYC (well, actually NJ)We're planning a trip where we're traveling from Maine and will be stopping at the Liberty Harbor RV Park (11 Luis Munoz Marin Blvd. Jersey City, NJ 07302), which is on the Hudson River just north of Ellis Island. I did a quick google route, which takes us straight down the west side of Manhattan. Being in a 32' MH, that makes me a bit nervous. Anyone have some suggestions of good routes to get to that part of NJ (maybe from the Hartford CT area)? How much to budget?I sold off our tow dolly this summer and looking to get a new/used dinghy next spring. Roughly how much should I budget to get it properly outfitted (baseplate, etc.) assuming that our future dinghy is approved by the manufacturer and needs no mechanical alterations? Thanks!Re: Southern Michigan parksI second Yankee Springs State Park. I don't think the park itself rents boats but there are plenty of other places that do. Just search google for boat rentals on Gun Lake. The campground has a boat launch that's connected to Gun Lake via a long channel where all the campers tie up their boats. Gun Lake is rather shallow, clear and warm. Great pan and bass fishing.Re: Ludington- Lake Michigan ideasLudington State Park is probably the best in Michigan - especially in the fall. Your kids are too young to appreciate it, but the adults will. You can swim in Lake Michigan or the inland lake near the dam. There's a great trail system around Lost Lake that you can access near the dam or the Beechwood campground. There's also a city park/beach on the west side of town.Re: Watkins Glen State Park without a toad.We stayed here last summer. The gorge is absolutely breathtaking! Unlike anything I've ever seen before. I highly recommend getting up early in the morning and hiking it before the crowds show up. I vaguely remember there being a shuttle that could take you from the campground office down to the town. And by 'down', I mean down! The campground is up a very steep hill from town and they don't allow bikes up or down it. I'd suggest calling the campground office directly and ask them about getting into town without a car and confirming that shuttle. We had a car, so I didn't pay attention that close. The pool is also down this steep hill and worth going to if it's hot. And speaking of that steep hill. There's a back way to the campground that comes in further south of the city and takes a much more gradual climb. I'd suggest taking some time and mapping your route, don't take Old Corning Rd that connects to 14 by Glenn Creek. It looks much more direct on paper, but is challenging to get up.Port Aransas, TX recommendations?Looking for some recommendations and feedback on Port Aransas, TX. We're thinking about heading that way this winter and hear it's a nice area. This trip will be just the wife and I and we could be spending a good month in this area. Having fairly direct access to the beach would be a bonus. Are there any other areas of TX on the gulf that we should consider? Sand and sun top our list of wants. Thanks.Michigan to Washington DC / Colonial WilliamsburgOur spring break week will be taking us from western Michigan to Washington DC, then to Colonial Williamsburg, and back to Michigan. We'll be staying Cherry Hill RV Park north of DC and American Heritage RV Park for the Williamsburg portion. 1. From MI to DC, we'll be taking I-80, I-76, I-70. Any major concerns with any of these sections? 2. From Cherry Hill RV Park down to Colonial Williamsburg, it looks like (the dreaded) I-95 is the most direct route. Any issues or alternatives? We're also planning to stop at Mt. Vernon in between. 3. From Colonial Williamsburg back to MI, Google Maps is taking us back up to DC and backtracking the same route we came. Does anyone have another suggestion? I'm considering taking I-64 across VA and WV, and then head diagonally across OH back up to MI. It looks like it will add about another hour or two to our trip with this route.NY Finger Lakes suggestionsHi All, I'm planning a trip to the Finger Lakes area for a week in July with my wife and 11 yo daughter. We'll be in our 30' motor home with car in tow. We plan to stay at Watkins Glen State Park for sure but are debating if we should split up the week at a different CG too. We're into wine, beer, cheese, and all of the other local flavor. Should we split the week at two campgrounds or can we stay entertained doing day trips out of Watkins Glen for the whole week? Please suggest a second campground if that's your thought. Public or private doesn't really matter, just need electricity as a minimum. Thanks.Re: Ideas for New York state? So would it be best sticking to the Finger Lakes area / west end of the state if we only have a week? Possibly splitting up our time between two campgrounds?
