I'm posting it purely for information. I do see the points raised by many of the posters. However, JaxDad makes a very good case that commercial traffic would be severely impacted by allowing non-essential land-border crossings to the US by Canadians. Trade between our two counties is obviously extremely important, especially during these rather difficult economic times. As for us, we used to enjoy taking our Roadtrek down south during the colder months, but because of the "bizarre" (to put it mildly) political situation in the States, we really don't feel comfortable traveling there. We recently closed our US dollar credit card, due to not using it. Why pay a yearly fee for something you can't, or don't want to use?Re: Absorption fridge 2 way vs 3 way steveh27 wrote: magicbus wrote: Is there a substantial cost difference between 2 and 3-way? I use 12V for travel, propane for boondocking and 120 when plugged in. If I didn't prefer to travel without a flame I just wouldn't use 12V and not worry I had a 3-way. Dave I do this also. We also use 12 V when traveling. However, one time when the 12 V stopped working (bad fuse, found out later), I decided to tun the fridge on 120 VAC using the inverter, and found that the fridge seemed to cool better. Apparently, as others in different forums have noted, the 120 V heating element has a higher wattage rating (therefore more heat) than the 12 V element.Re: Absorption fridge 2 way vs 3 way cptqueeg wrote: So far I gather the need for 12v on an absorption fridge is useful to travel instead of burning propane if there is no inverter to run a 3 way on 120v. In my case a DC-DC charger will take care of the fridge en route via 12v or 120v w the inverter saving the propane for actual camping and eliminating any issues w flowing propane and an open flame. What do you mean by a DC-DC charger? The fridge runs directly off the house battery when switched to 12 V, so no "charger" is required. Otherwise, you are correct in your assessment.Re: Absorption fridge 2 way vs 3 wayMy 2 cents worth: The 12 V function on an absorption type fridge is used when traveling, as many, including me, don't like a flame (albeit a small one) to be on when in motion. However, propane is very useful when off-grid. It's very efficient, and completely silent. As far as when the vehicle is in motion, you can run the fridge off 120 volts AC if you have an inverter. This provides better efficiency than 12 V, and it's basically "free power". So, to conclude, a 2-way (120 volts AC and propane is what I'd use.)Re: Vax Passports noteven wrote: VE3ESN wrote: Unlike British Columbia and Quebec, Ontario for some reason is reluctant to issue vaccine passports and appears to be waiting for federal government action. It pales in comparison to the official document and/or mobile phone app approach used in BC and QC. Why do you want another goverment issued scanable "passport" What is wrong with producing a physical record of your status to the person at the door? It prints on a 8-1/2 by 11 inch piece of paper. Problems: 1. Cumbersome to carry (especially for a male) 2. Easily forged. I guess I'm hoping (wishfully thinking?) for an official government document that can't be replicated. Why not? We have driver's licenses, provincial health insurance cards, etc. Covid is probably gonna be around for a long time, so IMHO, governments need to act ASAP.Re: Vax PassportsUnlike British Columbia and Quebec, Ontario for some reason is reluctant to issue vaccine passports and appears to be waiting for federal government action. Lots of statistics.US Land Border Still Closed to CanadiansAnother month extension. Read about it HERE.Re: Why won't the borders allow rvs across?Well, of course the irony in all of this is that there's a "loophole" that many have used to get their car or rv from Canada to the US. We know of a couple in our condo who did this. Here in southern Ontario, a company near St. Catherines, ON will arrange for your vehicle (car, truck, or RV) to be placed on a flat-bed truck and driven to Buffalo, NY. Then, after a short helicopter ride to your vehicle in Buffalo, you've crossed the border and free to drive to your US destination. The service isn't inexpensive, but apparently many have done it. Having said all this, when we found out what our neighbors had done, we were quite wary of the whole process. However, when they returned to Canada, both of them had their double Moderna vaccinations that they received, free of charge, in Florida. Actually, they had their shots before my wife and me! However, they've since told us that they're somewhat concerned about future trips to Florida because of "vaccine hesitancy" among many in the "red states", which is much of the trip south and their Florida destination. The anti-vaxxers have the potential to ruin it for the rest of us, and it's hard to understand their rationale. They really need to follow the science.Re: Open in August 9thThank you JaxDad for the reminder that ALL Canadian citizens cannot be denied entry into this country. The previous post, IMHO, is politically incorrect at best, and racist at worst. I like your comment about "aggressive staffers". Let's face it, these comments are usually a reflection of what the top party brass is thinking about a particular issue, again IMHO.
