I'm not suggesting that snowbirds should use the "services" described in this ARTICLE FROM THE CBC. I'm posting it purely for information. I do see the points raised by many of the posters. However, JaxDad makes a very good case that commercial traffic would be severely impacted by allowing non-essential land-border crossings to the US by Canadians. Trade between our two counties is obviously extremely important, especially during these rather difficult economic times. As for us, we used to enjoy taking our Roadtrek down south during the colder months, but because of the "bizarre" (to put it mildly) political situation in the States, we really don't feel comfortable traveling there. We recently closed our US dollar credit card, due to not using it. Why pay a yearly fee for something you can't, or don't want to use?1KViews0likes0CommentsRe: Absorption fridge 2 way vs 3 way

My 2 cents worth: The 12 V function on an absorption type fridge is used when traveling, as many, including me, don't like a flame (albeit a small one) to be on when in motion. However, propane is very useful when off-grid. It's very efficient, and completely silent. As far as when the vehicle is in motion, you can run the fridge off 120 volts AC if you have an inverter. This provides better efficiency than 12 V, and it's basically "free power". So, to conclude, a 2-way (120 volts AC and propane is what I'd use.)477Views0likes0CommentsRe: Vax Passports

Why do you want another goverment issued scanable "passport" What is wrong with producing a physical record of your status to the person at the door? It prints on a 8-1/2 by 11 inch piece of paper. Problems: 1. Cumbersome to carry (especially for a male) 2. Easily forged. I guess I'm hoping (wishfully thinking?) for an official government document that can't be replicated. Why not? Unlike British Columbia and Quebec, Ontario for some reason is reluctant to issue vaccine passports and appears to be waiting for federal government action. This probably won't happen during the midst of a federal election.:h HERE is a link to a site that allows you to print out your vaccination status. It's the only option right now for Ontario. Well, of course the irony in all of this is that there's a "loophole" that many have used to get their car or rv from Canada to the US. We know of a couple in our condo who did this. Here in southern Ontario, a company near St. Catherines, ON will arrange for your vehicle (car, truck, or RV) to be placed on a flat-bed truck and driven to Buffalo, NY. Then, after a short helicopter ride to your vehicle in Buffalo, you've crossed the border and free to drive to your US destination. The service isn't inexpensive, but apparently many have done it. Having said all this, when we found out what our neighbors had done, we were quite wary of the whole process. However, when they returned to Canada, both of them had their double Moderna vaccinations that they received, free of charge, in Florida. Actually, they had their shots before my wife and me! However, they've since told us that they're somewhat concerned about future trips to Florida because of "vaccine hesitancy" among many in the "red states", which is much of the trip south and their Florida destination. The anti-vaxxers have the potential to ruin it for the rest of us, and it's hard to understand their rationale. They really need to follow the science.744Views0likes0CommentsRe: Open in August 9th
Thank you JaxDad for the reminder that ALL Canadian citizens cannot be denied entry into this country. The previous post, IMHO, is politically incorrect at best, and racist at worst. I like your comment about "aggressive staffers".
