All ActivityMost RecentMost LikesSolutionsNeed storage optionsCan anyone give me an idea of potential TT storage options in the Philadelphia area? Figure on a total length of 26 to 27 feet. Thanks in advance folksRe: Back with a few more questionsUse is a good question. Amanda and I have thought about that quite a bit. As a boat owner I have spent every available weekend on the boat for the past 17 seasons. As with any boat, we have gotten used small quarters and spending much of our time outside the boat doing things. What we envision is a large number of weekends spent in a 100 to 200 mile radius or our homes. We will do the 4 or more day vacation type runs a bit further out. So we are essentially looking at a few days at a time relatively close to home. In time we are looking to do longer distance and time trips, once we get used to the whole lifestyle. We do not have nor desire kids, being in our 40s that is a decision we are confident we will stick to. We may have a dog with us occasionally, well trained and house/living quarter respectful (we do it in a 25 foot boat occasionally now). Doing a long term living type thing is not in our cards so short jaunts will not find a smaller unit closing us in much.Re: Back with a few more questions Bumpyroad wrote: couldn't find out what the roof is made of, probably either TPO or rubber. if rubber I wouldn't want it. no comfy place to sit, other than dinette. how was that and could you watch TV from there. are you sure you can bend over in that shower? what are you towing it with? can you go up a foot or two? bumpy The dinette table removes and the whole affair turns into a sofa, Or at least I am sure that is the case with this one. The roof is not rubber. I want to say a vinyl product. The model we saw has a rounded shower door and a foot shelf directly across from it. The website only shows a straight shower door, that might be a deal killer if we can't get the rounded door. I am currently driving a Ford F 150 with a 5.4 and from what I could find it will tow 6900 lb max. We really do not need nor want anything larger. We have looked at Jayco and KZ models that are a few feet longer and we were left wanting more food prep space and were dealing with much more weight.Back with a few more questionsHi folks, I popped on here a while ago and then phased out......research is a slow process! I am the guy transitioning out of a boat and into an TTRV. My GF and I created must have list each and then ignored all else but units with the attributes we seek. Our list is simple.....flat sides (easy to clean and wax), ample food prep space (tall order on many it seems), 3 side walk around bed, one bump out (holds dinette), nice sized shower/tub unit (wanna wash my feet while comfortably bending over, no contortions).....and I think that is it really. We attended the Hershey Show and saw the 2 units we were interested in. After all the torture we put the reps through we walked around and happened across the Shadow Cruiser 225. The food prep space is amazing and even though the unit is only 22 feet it is roomy...plenty for the 2 of us. The newer shower on these units is nice,(circular front) and we both agreed that we have found the unit we have both envisioned. Can I get some opinions on the unit? I know it is a bit of a price point unit but it appears to be well put together. I will immediately swap the lights for LED and will get either a 8D battery or a pair of 27 series units and will see what I can do about solar charging. Any opinions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance folks. JimRe: Voyageur National ParkI just got back from Voyageur. I did not do the RV thing (I don't have one yet) but stayed at a lake front cabin. We traveled around some and saw several spots that appeared to have RVs on them. Much of the park is water, large lakes and marsh and yes there are some areas that are only accessible by boat, but there are many other areas that can be reached from land. It is a beautiful place and if you ae into fishing for Walleye it is great (the slot limit is frustrating though). EnjoyRe: MS and campingRopdoc, I have MS too. I am much older than the young person you are talking about (47) and was diagnosed in my 30s. I do not require any "equipment" yet and keep a great attitude about it all. While I do not have any tips and tricks for you, I am going to watch this thread closely to learn about what I might need to do in some distant future. The folks here are great and very willing to offer what they know.Re: Difference in Susp btw 2007 F250 & F350No expert here, but I have towed boats and such quite a bit. What may LOOK like the same parts (exact MFG numbering not included), can be quite different in material make up, thickness and strength. Bolts are marked on the head with a numerical system stating what they are rated to do and I am sure material differences in some parts will escape the naked eye. The ability of an axle to withstand more weight has to do with the strength of the internals in that axle and the thickness of those parts. The way things are engineered and put together can also be a factor. That said, I saw a Mustang pulling a 30 ish foot Maxum boat that I would not have wanted strapped to the back of my truck. He swayed from side to side and bobbed up and down essentially being steered by the boat trailer. I stayed back for a bit and then rushed up to him and floored it past him. I did not want to be behind that mess when it finally caught up with him. I am sure there are TT examples, but hey, I am still a boat guy :)Re: A newbie thinking about getting a TTI want to thank you all for your advice and expertise. I have some time before I make the move.....Want to enjoy one more season of Sharkin and striper fishing before selling the boat........I will start my search in earnest in the fall. Until that time, I will continue learning and researching what is needed to make this an easy transition. To the person who suggested doing both.....you have never boated with me nor have you spent a Spring season fitting out with me, I am a bit of a perfectionist and it is starting to get old on me. Boats are different from anything else. To all the other former boaters, I hope to follow in your path and enjoy some relaxed camp fires and canoe paddling and FW fishing. If it seems I dropped off the site after the question, that is because we went on a Road trip from the Phila Metro area to far Northern Minnesota and did a woodsy fishing trip. I am pretty sure I passed every RV manufacturer in the country while in transit!A newbie thinking about getting a TTHi Folks, I have been reading through this site ravenously and have learned many things so far. I am currently a boater who after 16 seasons with my current boat is looking to start something new, a new adventure and since i love the outdoors my GF and I have decided on a TT. It sems that RVs, TTs and Boats share some of the same characteristics and headaches and joys so we are hoping the transition should not be too much of a culture shock for us nor a change we cannot adapt to. I am looking to sell the boat this summer and do the TT thing soon after that. My first questions have to do with tow vehicles. I searched through the FAQ areas on the site but did not see anything about sway bars and helper springs on a tow vehicle. I have seen all manner of things on the subject with regard to trailers themselves but there is no mention of helper springs or sway bars on the tow vehicle. Is this because they are just not all that helpful? Might they hurt the overall set up? I used to tow a lightish boat years ago and the rear sway bar and helper spring set up was very beneficial. Will a set up like that help or even take the place of a WD set up on a trailer that weighs less than 6500 lb? Currently I have 2000 F150 with a 5.4 liter gas motor. I plan on upgrading to a Chevy 2500 Diesel in the future. I want to thank you all in advance. I will have many more questions as time goes by and I get a TT. Bawugna
