It made a tremendous difference. 37 ft F-53 37ft Encounter by Coachmen.Re: Class A Motorhome EnginesI have had the Ford F53 chassis with the V10 for 12 years. The first was a 2003 which I had for 10 years 35ft long. It was a 2valve (20 total valves). Never had a problem with the tranny or engine. Averaged 7-8 MPG towing an escape hybrid (after break-in, around 7k miles). Decided I wanted a different MH to go into retirement. So we let the floor plan we liked, generate the engine/tranny. Gasser or diesel did not matter as the floor plan was the decider, after all if you are unhappy with the floor plan, you won't like the coach no matter what engine. Floor plan we loved turned out to be a gasser, 3Valve (total 30), V10. MH is 37ft long. Only have 3.5K miles on it so it is not broken-in yet but have averaged 6.4 to 7.2 MPG towing the Escape hybrid. This tranny is a 5 speed and has Tow-Haul mode (my first was 4 speed and no tow-haul mode). I need more time and some very long trips to do a good evaluation, but so far so good. Handling was very good, but added a Blue Ox TruCenter to the front and a TigerTrak bar to the rear. Now it handles like a dream. Just my thoughts, I am sure some will agree with my choices, some will not...they are my choices, yours may be different...but they will be yours to make. Have fun, camp often.Re: Coachman Encountergo to Forrest River Forums, General Motorhome Discussion, Coachmen Motorhomes it is a Coachmen thread there you can communicate with many current Coachmen owners, ask questions...we will answer and advise. I traded my 03 Hurricane in for a Coachmen Encounter 37TZ 2013. Had issues, all MH's do. The Coachmen group made everything right (through my dealer)they stood by their product. Yes, floor plan is everything. We had in mind what we wanted and decided the floor plan would dictate the engine. Just so happened the floor plan was on a gasser. Ford V10 gasser and transmission. In my 12 years with that power train I never had any problems, just the usual plugs wires etc. Minor stuff, the F53 chassis is great.Re: Newbies in our 60'sCongratulations! I had a 35 ft. Hurricane 2003 for ten years, it was a decent motorhome. Look into a Good Sam Maintenance/warranty policy. A lot of very expensive things can break or malfunction...it is a good repair insurance policy. Make sure the levelers work properly and the slides function properly. Check the awning for function and damage. MOST IMPORTANT..make sure you have a surge/undervoltage/overvoltage protector BEFORE you plug into ANY power pedastal. Improper wiring or improper voltage and voltage spikes can do a lot of damage to your components and systems. a good unit will cost between 250-376 dollars, there are portable units (subject to theft) and hard wired units. I prefer the hardwired unit. Run your generator once a month for about 30 minutes under load..it is good maintenance and prevents the carb from varnishing up and if you are not going to use the MH for an extended period use Stabil in the fuel tank. Get a good tire pressure monitoring system for the coach and if you are going to tow a car add monitors for it. Enjoy your coach and camp a lot.Re: Two found dead in rvEach night I make sure my stove knobs are fully off. I then take the knobs off and put them in the silverware drawer until needed. I too have `bumped` the knobs clutzing around at night from time to time. Fortunately my propane sensor was very sensitive. 1nRe: Lost interest in RV TravelI can understand RVten's point of view. I am comming from the other end. Spent 23 years in subs, traveled 100k plus miles a year. Spent 17 years as a gov't contractor, traveled 70K+ miles a year. Now going on 10 years as a govee worrying about threats to this wonderful country of ours. DW of 41 years wants me to give it up, retire, travel in the MH and see what i've (and many others) have been protecting all these years. Now at 67 and having survived a bout with cancer, i'm going to do it. Take my 38 footer, take my time, see those Federal and State parks and everything in-between (including that rediculously large ball of twine and that crater) and take my time enjoying it. I've been the full route with the DW. Backpacking, tent camping, Van camping, pop-up camping and Class A rving (11 years now). So who knows, maybe after a bit of time just chilling at the brick and mortar he will get the wander spirit again, maybe not, but his choice and his alone. Just my opinion.Re: Bulb to LED light conversionGo to m4products.com and look at their products. They have replacements for all, even fluorescents. Brightness varies too. Cool white and natural will give you different types of light. They have a very good descriptions as to what the different led types give you in lighting effects. This is one of many sellers out there but the one I used to convert my lights. For areas I thought were too bright, I just installed a dimmer that way I could set my lighting to a level that I wanted to have.Re: brake systems for toadI have been using the Unified Brake by US Gear for 6 years now. Just recently bought a new MH and just had to buy the MH module to get up and running. Love the system. Easy hookup (plug in the cables and go). Its TOAD stuff is all on the front firewall under the carpeting wwith the module under the dash...don't even notice it is there.Re: Slideout noise while underwayI had the same issue on the drivers side slide on my 2013 Encounter 37TZ. Coachmen had my dealer work with the vendor on the issue, not sure who makes it, but the slide has cables. Turns out that the four brackets that attach to the outer part of the slide were mounted wrong. Once the bracket positions were redone...noises were gone.
