Re: Handy Hints, Gadgets, Products & GizmosGreat post. In really bad weather or if I'm looking for a street sign, I have my "Navigator" read out distances and left or rights like a racing rally you might see on Speed Vision. It helps a great deal in keeping us safe. pigroaster wrote: Correction. I could see at least 200 feet down the road (or more)or I would not have been driving. The GPS only was another tool to assist me in the drive. I was not driving with no road visibility. I hope this corrects any misunderstandings and I was not pulling my Cedar Creek at the time and yes I also had my fog lights on. Perhaps this idea should not have been suggested even though I still think seeing curves ahead with the GPS helped me! Re: Handy Hints, Gadgets, Products & GizmosPig Roaster: You have inspired me to go build something, don't know what yet, just anything! Thanks for all the great ideas and even better directions.Re: Handy Hints, Gadgets, Products & GizmosTook a short trip to get out of the AZ heat this summer and headed to Show Low and the White Mountains to do some boondocking in the cool air. We took two of our small dogs with us and on the way stopped for lunch. Since it was still 90* we parked the truck and trailer in the shade, set the dp chip to run the truck at 1500 rpms, left the AC on high and locked the pups inside. Unless one stepped on the brake and one moved the drive lever, we should have no problem. No problem, so I thought. Half way accross the street I realized I forgot my wallet, turned back to find my little darling standing on the drivers armrest with both paws on the window switches watching them go up and down, trying to figure when to jump out and follow us. I stayed with the dogs and my bride got lunch to go.... We now put them in carriers while we're away from the truck. Scary lesson.Re: Handy Hints, Gadgets, Products & GizmosWhat a great idea! If your batteries run low, put the water jug on your ladder shelf (just high enough to be over your fill inlet) put your water hose in the bottom and suck just enough water to to start a siphon. I learned this in the old days when I ran out of gas, the good part is the water tastes a whole lot better if you over do it!!! lookinin wrote: This little pump on the end of drill transfers water in a heck of a hurry. Beats juggling 50 pound of water, getting wet shoes and doing the mosquitoe dance at the same time. Cheers, Kevin Re: Handy Hints, Gadgets, Products & GizmosThe bike rack companies also make a hith that slides over a regular hitch extention so you can do both. The other option is a platform bike rack that attaches to the bumper. You have lots of options. Just google bike racks. I like the box though! Good luck AO_hitech wrote: Okay, this is not something I built, yet. It is my next project. I have almost no outside storage and need a place to carry the bikes. I also sometimes tow a boat. I have one of those carriers that fit in a hitch receiver. Works okay for the bikes, but I can't carry anything else with the bikes, nor can I tow anything. I thought of building a box on the carrier, and bolting it to a hitch extension, but then I still wouldn't have anywhere for the bikes. My wife saw this in the spot next to us. It is exactly what I want. I just never thought of putting the bike racks on top. And you can still tow with it. Re: Handy Hints, Gadgets, Products & GizmosCamping Shadow Does the black water washer have a backflow valve on it. My only worry would be that there was a chance of black water seeping back into your city water inlet. Just my .02 Happy dayz! campingshadow wrote: Phew.....finished all of the hints and there were some real goodies. I think the best one I saw was using Google Notebook to keep track of the ones I want to use or research farther. Sure saves hunting back thru all these posts to find the real nuggets. And I can get the info from any computer thru Google Notebook. As for camping tips....I have several that I will add over the next couple days. I would like to add pictures to most, so have to take them first!! One hint to start with. My 5ver has two water connections....one for city water and one to run the black tank washer. Therefore, I have two hoses connected to the one faucet with a Y adapter. I leave the flush side closed except when needed. If I am moving the trailer, I clean out the tank first. Last time it was taken out, a friend helped me break camp. He turned off the water at the faucet and collected the hoses after flushing out the tank. He did NOT turn off the valve. When we got to the next site, he hooked up both hoses, turned on the water and walked off. Not too long afterwards, our neighbor asked if we knew there was water coming out of the bay. As we opened the bay door and water rushed out, water also began streaming down from the ROOF. We ran and turned off the water, and checked inside. The (thankfully clean) black tank had over filled and flooded back thru the toilet and was running across the floor and just about to drip down the stairs. So.....important tip.....ALWAYS check the Y adapter to make sure the shut off valves are set properly BEFORE turning on the water. I hate to think what would have happened if we had not been there to catch things quickly. Re: Handy Hints, Gadgets, Products & Gizmos LarryJM wrote: Sorry, double post ... dang it. Larry Larry I just checked out all 83 pictures of your trailer mods. WOW thats some great stuff! I'm going to do many of them. Tell us about the 50amp to dual 30amp. And then you installed a second elec box to run additional 30amp service? Excellent! Thank you for sharing!Re: Handy Hints, Gadgets, Products & Gizmos JimBollman wrote: Instead of a bump try posting a hint, most of us probably have lots of things we have done to our campers, they all don't have to be big. Jim... Thank you for your suggestion, but I've posted many hints. I've also noticed if you don't post regularly, that you stop getting notified of additions. If they want to "bump" me for "bumping" so be it....Re: Handy Hints, Gadgets, Products & GizmosBump!
