Any suggestions on a safe campground, place a 12 yr old can stay and have fun with family? Also is the 5 hwy from Tok to Little Gold and Dawsin City passable for an RV? My son wants to see Tombstone Territorial Park. Looks like a 18 hr drive otherwise. I do understand the road in July should be snow free, mostly compact dirt, gravel and oiled? .. Thanks Cb I've done the Top of the World twice, most recently in 2019 in a 36' Class C. Road was under a lot of construction but no problem. Great free ferry across the Yukon into Dawson City. Good campground in Dawson. Check out the Sourtoe Cocktail Social club downtown.Re: Chains in BCJust watch "Highway thru Hell" on the Weather Channel for examples of how bad it can get fast. I left Alaska on the last day of September in 2019. I was worried about the BC chain requirement. Fortunately, the weather was good so I don't think the RCMP were out looking for potential violators.Re: Evacuation InsuranceWhen we went in 2019, I wanted a way to communicate with family and in case of emergency. I ended up buying a SPOT communicator. One of the options was a rescue feature at the press of a button that would attivate what ever type of rescue was needed. Check this out. I used it to send a All Safe text message with our location every night. In hindsight, i should have gone with the Garmin Inreach unit as it is easier to operate.Re: Road way and Elevation issues while travelingAnother question is do you want to avoid tolls. In the NE, many of the highways and bridges have tolls. Pulling a toad means some of the tolls are rediculous. We are going to Maine in August from Maryland. We've driven I95 through NYC and up to Boston in cars so don't need to see that again. In our RV pulling a toad, we'll go up I83 and other interstates to Birmingham. Then wander our way through Vermont and New Hampshire before getting to Maine. Should be a nice, scenic trip.Re: Short Term Freezing Weather Tips? down home wrote: Be sure your propane tanks are full. With what we've seen in Texas on the Weather Channel I would not drive my rig out to fill up with propane. If you have an extended stay valve on your rig, and have a safe way to get some propane, get some 20# tanks and use them. You could get 2 days per tank used sparingly.Re: Filling large propane tank on the road MrMark52 wrote: FWIW - We’re in Dallas, and the Tractor Supply’s around here will not fill permanent tanks in a motorhome. I’m not sure any of the, will - YMMV, but I would recommend calling first. In my area, they will but not all the personnel are qualified to fill horizonal tanks (I think that is the requirement). Agree with the call first. Re: Filling large propane tank on the road bucky wrote: Most ACE hardware stores also sell propane. In my area, I have found out that the cost of propane at Tractor Supply is half of Ace, which I had previously been using. I took my RV down to our goose club so I would not have to eat and sleep in the clubhouse. I used a 20# bottle connected to an extended stay. This worked out well. Tractor Supply was close by which is how I learned of my mistake. Was shocked at the difference in price. Needless to say, I filled up the RV Saturday when I brought the RV home. I refilled my 20# bottle about 4 times during the season and would be able to get about 3 nights in cold weather. If I were ataying full time, I would have 2 bottles. Note: Tractor Supply has a corporate policy that they will not fill Blue Rhino bottles.Re: Western US Itinerary Help bukhrn wrote: if doing Custer State park, I would absolutely do Mount Rushmore, it's like right next door, I would also do the Badlands and the rest of the Black Hills area, then up for a quick tour of Devils Tower, then over to Cody, good for a few days, then on into the east entrance of Yellowstone. Add in Crazyhorse Monument while you're there. A couple of hours is enough to check out the museum and see the status of the mounment.Re: Tire pressure gaugesHere's another pressure question. You set your cold pressure (say 95psi). Then you travel to Alaska where the cold temperature is lower than when you set your pressures. You turn on your TPMS and yourr tire pressures are lower than you set. Do you inflate to get your starting pressures up to standard or just wait for the pressures to increase due to driving and temperature gains.Re: Tire pressure gauges pitch wrote: Where are you guys finding tire shops that have calibrated gauges? Every place I have ever been to Chain, independent, clean, filthy, trustworthy, or disreputable, use what ever gauge the tech has in his pocket,or the big stick gauge on the compressor hose. Y,all are either really gullible or, live in much more exclusive zip code than I. Right, I bought a new set of tires for my toad. When I hooked up to the RV for a tow and turned on the TPMS, the toad readings were low. I manually checked and found every tire 4 psi lower than recommended.
