SO much nicer than fluorescents. AR111 LED lights Re: What did you do to your Class A MH today???Not exactly the motorhome, but I installed a ready brake in my 2009 Honda Fit, as well as a Roadmaster baseplate. My back is killin' me...but it was worth the $$$ savings paying someone else to do it! Only took me a year after I bought the Fit specifically to use as a toad.Re: What did you do to your Class A MH today???Replaced 6 incandescent turret-light bulbs with single LED, high-power spots. NICE! (not cheap, but big power saving). Wish someone would make drop-in replacement bulbs for the low profile 12v fluorescents! Replaced CRT TVs with flat panels, and made a new bezel for front TV. Ordered tripod-mounted satellite dish kit so I can use my surplus DVR in the coach. Was going to do a KVH dome, but I camp in the woods a lot and can't guarantee I can get a clear shot of the sky with a dome. Microwave ENTER button stopped working. Diagnosed problem as faulty microswitch, but had to order the entire main circuit board assembly to fix. Removed microwave, replaced board, reinstalled, and voila: nearly instant hot food again! Installed 3 Mr. Beams stairway lights (superbright LED, battery powered), that are amazing! They are motion activated, but throttle back to night lights when not triggered. This things are NICE. Bought NiMHh rechargeable batteries and charger (3 C batteries each!). One on the entry, one tucked under the dining table, and one in the bathroom. Highly recommended! Upgraded CRT-based, B&W, single cam rearview with LCD-based, three cam, color. Mounted new side cams, and installed motorized rear cam. Not enough brightness on rear cam, so took old cam apart, stole the IR leds from it, and mounted them in the center, top, rear, running lights (pretty stealthy, actually). Powered from running light circuit. Still not enough brightness. Ordered an outdoor 48 light IR illuminator. That oughtta do it. Tired of genny cutting out after 30 minutes when outside air temp is high and we're parked. Installed a receptacle in the genny bay, and mounted a muffin fan just inside the door. Cut an opening in the door, and installed a grill. Made a plenum to channel hot air out the bottom and isolate cool air at the top (as much as I can). Now with the revised "cool" air flow, the genny runs all day, no matter what outside temp is, and even when both A/C units are running. ABOUT TIME. Was worried I'd kill my dogs when the bloody thing cut out. No more worries! Rooftop "airhorn" not working, and it's not a fuse. Decided it was too much work to install a real air horn up there (original is one of those electrics). Bought a compact BadBoy horn instead, and mounted it in the engine compartment. Plenty loud! Bought a Battery Tender, solar model, for the chassis battery, and hooked it up in parallel with solar charger for the house batteries. Plenty of capacity on the solar cells, and now I NEVER get "click click click click" when I return to the coach after an extended absence, and the house batteries are strong as well. Swapped A/C units. Rear unit blows colder, and with runs through the desert, we needed more cooling up front. Maybe I'll get myself a 15kbtu one of these days. Installed Dynamat on the underside of the engine access. WOW, did that ever quiet the engine noise down in the cabin. MAJOR difference. Dynamat is a miracle product! Repaired stairs. One of four nuts with integral star washer came loose. Amazingly, the nut came off completely, but somehow the stairs held the nut until we stopped, where it dropped onto the parking lot. God smiled on me that day. That little incident though, took quite a lot of time and effort to fix. The tops of the bolts are not accessible, except if you take out the inside stair treads. Why didn't they use a carriage bolt or tack weld the damn thing???? Installed an automatic transfer switch (ATS). Got sick of forgetting to move the plug from pedestal to genny receptacle when pulling up stakes, and then trying to fire the genny up while on the freeway in the desert, and THEN remembering I didn't move the plug. Headlights were yellowed. Got a 3M headlight restoration kit and boy howdy does that ever work as advertised. It's a decent amount of work, but well worth the effort. Crystal clear lenses...now. So many other little things I've been doing. Thank God I can do these things myself. I'd be paying out the *** if I had to have a shop do these things for me. I love it though. Even with frustrations along the way, it's still cathartic! --Neil
