BurbMan wrote: Amp hrs are about the same but the 6v's are true deep cycle whereas the 12v's are "combo" deep cycle and marine. You'll get better performance from the 6v's. If you are going to boondock a lot and recharge from a generator, search over in tech issues about upgrading your charger/converter and the wiring to the batteries. Perfect answer! I have also found that in the limited battery space available on our 20 foot trailer, 6V batteries wired to make 12v provides more amp hours.Re: Mounting Generator on rear end...what is your tow vehicle?Tire Air-Presure Preparation: timingSilly question: We are getting ready for a short journey tomorrow afternoon; is it okay to check and fill the air in the trailer tires today; or, should I wait until tomorrow? Does it really matter?Re: Black water tank light says 2/3 full after drainingI've been RVing since 2007, and black tank sensors are useless and can be a waste of calgon, dishwasher soap, ice cubes, and other various tank cleaners; the way to gauge the black tank is to look down into it through the toilet when it is empty; as the toilet is used, count flushes to keep track of how many toilet fills of waste go into the black tank; to make sure that it drains as much as possible when you dump, use A LOT OF WATER! As we were taught in elementary science, water is the universal solvent; to allow our holding tank to have the greatest capacity after we "dump" is to use lot of water and a deodorant; this is the best way to maintain our black tank. Water, and a deodorant is the only way I do it. By the way, my black tank is currently empty, the guage says that it's full; it's useless...Re: How big of a truck do you need?...if you will be driving your current combination, please notify us when you will be on the road so that we can choose to stay off it! I am the most confident pulling a camping trailer, loaded or not with a vehicle which is way more than necessary. If I ever have an incident with high wind gust, a trailer tire blow-out, or an accident, I want to have the most control possible; this means having a vehicle stout enough to handle any bad situation. Please carefully evaluate your RVing choices before planning and embarking on any excursion; this forum is a good start! Good luck, and happy RVing!Re: First travel trailerCongratulations! Drive safely, and use lots of water in your waste tanks: black tank especially.Re: to reserve or not to reserve...for my lovely wife and I it boils down to she has to have a place to land that will be there fore certain; now if you want to have a little more excitement and throw caution to the wind, hit the road and see what you find; but, California is a happy and popular place to be camping, so finding a site my be tough, Good luck, happy camping, and enjoy the adventure!Re: Tell me about the Camp Ground you Can't Wait to Go Back toCape Lookout Oregon State park.Re: Why? Driving observationWhen it comes to driving, we are all idiots. The best solution is to have more traffic patrol officers; this means higher taxes; now, who wants to pay higher taxes?Re: Dogbone MeltedI did this very thing last season. I needed a 20amp connection; however, there were only 50amp connections available. So, I plugged a 50 to 20 dog-bone to plug in the trailer; the dog bone melted. Lesson learned.
