I still say a 250 is likely the best all around size truck for those who want more than casual usage. My diesel just add less cares for towing and provides a steady run for my trailer loads and long hauls. the trans has few shifts due to hills and even mountains. That's one of those funny things, unless you get the big diesel, a 3/4 or 1 ton isn't much different in price from a similarly outfitted half ton. Going from a 1/2T to a 350 is a really expensive step as all your costs from fuel to brakes are much more. We have for years pulled our Jayco with our 250 diesel and it has never felt any different then driving our normal ride around town auto. WE seem to do a lot of things before we leave Florida for the north. Leaving our TT here requires several steps does everyone do the same things as us? We put moth balls under tt in a container with holes in the lid, we use 3 buckets of stay dry inside and charcoal,kitty liter and ant traps. Final step is to set off bug bomb. We run water thru the hot water tank for a few minutes. disconnect battery. plus a bunch of other stuff like covering toilet with a plastic bag, turn off propane. "You are correct that most TT or bumper pulls can be pulled with a SRW truck because there TW is relatively small. It's when you get into 5'ers and TC's that the pin weight and payload becomes a bigger factor that can exceed the ability of a SRW truck." I agree with the weight issue as most 5ers weight a lot and also demand more of everything from sometimes 6 tires to much more fuel. A TT like ours has an exceptional amount of room (especially for two people). There is also a nice feature that I have a top the truck that holds a lot. We have been doing the for many years and have seen those with 5ers that also hold two motorcycles and a couple canoes and till has the good wife driving a separate car with the dogs. We see so many folks with dually trucks and wonder how many folks require them. We have always hauled our Jayco 39' travel trailers. I also know we load it to the teeth for our 6 to 7 thousand mile winter trips across the US. I never wanted a 5th wheel as I never cared for the bed and bath up stairs. ( figured after a few beers I might be falling down as well as up ,LOL) Bottom line never had any towing issues and we do put on the miles. We stay in Fl all winter and have done so for years. Yes, it is snowbird time and your state make mega-millions by us being here. We stay in the less populated areas and drive to the others and put up with gobs of traffic and hour long waits for restaurants. Get over it, we don't like the higher costs for living the winter here but it is better than snow. Each year we traveled from Detroit area to Las Vegas to Tucson Az then on to boloxi and Fl. We stayed at or near casinos every time many were just a small charge if any and a lot of times being a returning customer we got free meals and other comps.
