This is really more of a project on my truck but it is camper related. I bought my Amerigo in the early '90s and after using it for 10 years I started to notice the usual "butt droop" that these campers get. I didn't have the time or place to do a proper repair to the camper so I reinforced the floor underneath and I built a support for that corner of the camper that came off of the rear of my truck. It worked very well for me. When I got my "new" 1974 F350 it was going to be a dedicated hauler for the Amerigo so I built a new support that is bolted to the frame of the truck and supports the whole overhang of the camper. It worked so well I decided to add a hitch to the support and use it to mount an aluminum box on the rear to carry equipment. Problem was, the box interfered with opening the Snap-N-Nap. I ended up fabricating a box mount that I could pull the hitch pin and slide it back to clear the Snap-N-Nap. What I didn't like was the fact that the extension (when it is in the travel position) was like a spear pointing at my rear fuel tank. If I got rear ended I didn't need to add that to my problems. Which brings us to your question :). I am now fabricating a box mount that will have a pivot on the drivers side so I can swing the box out of the way. This will allow my to get rid of the "spear". I needed that dimension for this project so I new how far over to mount the pivot point. Sorry for the long answer but I didn't know how else to explain it. I just wanted to say that I have watched your progress on your Amerigo and I am amazed at how much you have gotten done and how well everything has turned out. It looks really great and I hope you get as much enjoyment out of yours as we have gotten out of ours. You have just saved me a 3 hour round trip.Re: A little help from Amerigo owners Wagonqueen Truckster wrote: Width from the outside? Yes, the overall width of the outside of the part that folds out. I measured mine last fall when I parked it and I was sure I would remember it. It sucks getting old :h ErichA little help from Amerigo ownersI don't have easy access to my Amerigo camper at this time and I was wondering if anyone could help me out. I need the overall width of the snap-n-nap part of our campers. To the nearest inch would be fine. Mine is a 1972 with the aluminum style snap-n-nap. Any help would be appreciated. ErichRe: New Camper HaulerVery nice job on a great truck. I've had ours for 2 years now and I am always surprised at how many people stop by the campsite to ask about the rig when they are out for an evening stroll. Did you end up going with 16" tires? I had Stockton Wheel duplicate my super singles in 16" so I could keep the original look. These things haul a heavy load with ease. I installed Firestone airbags on mine because I already had them and I only use them to help level out at the campsite. I only carry 10 psi (the minimum) in them when we are on the road. Hope you enjoy yours as much as we enjoy ours!Re: 1972 Amerigo Camper Rebuild 1971amerigo wrote: AmerigoHauler Did the siding on your camper look that good when you bought it ? I don't see any dents at all ! Yes, that's the way it was when I bought it in the early 90's. The only thing I've done to it is wash and wax it. It does have a small tear in the skin on the vertical part right by the "porch light". It looks like the PO caught it on something . They bent it back in place and sealed it. I've never done anything with it because its not real noticeable. You can see it in this photo: Re: 1972 Amerigo Camper Rebuild JoeChiOhki wrote: Hey Erich, a little off topic, but I was looking at your photo in your signature, are you still running the 16.5x12.00 Load Range G 14 ply tires on the rear of your camper special? Hi Joe, When I bought the truck in '09 it still had the original wheels on it front and rear. I was having a hard time finding replacement tires so I decided to go the 16" route. I really wanted to keep the original look so I had Stockton Wheel make me 2 wheels in 16x9.75" with the original backspace of 4.5". I used a set of regular 16x7" wheels on the front. I ended up putting Goodyear Wranglers sized LT235/85R16 on the front and LT305/70R16 on the rear. These are all load range E tires. These sizes are almost identical to the originals that came on the truck. I am very happy with the combination. The only thing I did different was to paint the wheels Wimbledon White instead of gray. If you have anymore questions feel free to PM me. OK, back to the Amerigo stuff :) Erich (Oops, The picture in my sig is the original sized 12.00x33". Below is a picture of the truck with the new wheels and tires. When I worked on my snap n nap years ago I took the side panels apart and I glued in some of the pink foam board that I cut to fit. It reinforced the panels and I noticed it stayed warmer back there when the snap n nap was opened. I am curious to see how your vinyl covering works because I would like to hide the cracks in my panels. ErichRe: Camper to Cab intercomWhen I bought my '72 Amerigo from an RV dealer in 1990 I was pleasantly surprised at some of the items that the PO had left in the camper to make my first TC experience more enjoyable. One of the items was the front part of the intercom to the TC. I new I would never need it but I figured I would go ahead and install it any way. I works good and the cool part is the wire that hooks up to the dash speaker so the people in the back could listen to whatever radio station you had on. ErichRe: What year is this Amerigo Truck Camper?Hi, I found my M/N and the #72 stamped in the threshold of the entry door. This matched the VIN sticker on the outside that gave a date of manufacture of 1972. Erich
