All ActivityMost RecentMost LikesSolutionsRe: From Md to California, Part 1We spend a lot of time in Edgewater and have made the trip probably a dozen times over the last five years. If we were making the trip in January, we would check the weather for the next couple of days and look for night lows below 35 degrees. If the temps looked good, we would run 66 to 81, then 81 south to 40. If temps were going to be too low or the weather was lousy, we would take 95 south to 85 south to 20. We avoid 10 in Louisiana at all costs. Each morning we check the weather for the next couple of days and make adjustments. We drove it in December 2 years ago and ended up on 10 through Texas because of snow. I wouldn't be stubborn about which route during winter. The drive can be a lot of fun or a tedious slog through cold, windy, dreary days. We are in Arizona right now and the nights are chilly (30s). On a lake with better weather, check Lake Havasu.Re: Waste vacuum pumpIf it stays red but you don't hear the pump running, the black tank is full. If it stays red and you hear the pump running, its either a cracked bellows or a vacuum leak. Chances are, a cracked bellows.Re: St. Joseph SP Campground FloridaWe were there a couple of months ago. I wouldn't try to fit a 40' in any of the interior sites, but that's just me. I don't remember site 59, I just remember how claustrophobic that area was. I would stick to the outside of the loop. We stayed in site 4 with a 35'; you should be able to fit there. 3 and 2, if I remember correctly, were also long enough. You might check out the other loop - 90-100 or so should be long enough. Best of luck and enjoy your trip!Re: Best Route- New Mexico to FloridaI would not take I-10 through Louisiana unless they have fixed it. Horrible, horrible, drive.Re: What size and type RV do you use to full-time?We have been full timing for four years so far in a 34' class A with 2 slides. We wouldn't trade it for anything larger. We stay mostly in state and federal parks; while many have sites that accommodate 40' rigs, there are less spaces of that size and some great campgrounds won't accept anything larger than 35'. Someone posted something about full timers being inside a lot? I would disagree, but that could just be us. We also move quite a bit compared to other full timers - at least once per week rather than long stays in one place. Like Roy and Lynne, we would go smaller. Unlike Roy and Lynne, we don't yet have the guts to downsize any more. :)Re: Common question: Should I get a TT or MH? Selling after 6moThe advantage of most class A/C is having an on board generator with the touch of a button. This allows you to stop, eat, shower, and anything else just about anywhere. The advantage of smaller sprinter class C/B+ is their limited length so you don't really need a toad, their ability to park almost anywhere an F350 can park, and better gas mileage than any other RV class. For three months, I would go for a 24' or less class B+/C with no toad. If the smaller size gets to you, you can always stay in a hotel room for a night or two. Cruise America sells their rental stock for pretty good prices with a 90 day warranty.Re: KY Bourbon Trail campingWe stayed at the Kentucky Horsepark Campground. It was nice, centrally located, clean. Our site was level and there were maybe 5 other rigs in the campground. Others feel differently. KHP reviewsRe: Progressive as RV InsuranceLast month we had our class A windshield replaced. Because of traveling and the Tampa RV show, it took two weeks to schedule the replacement. But working with progressive was excellent and they went out of their way to find a shop we liked in the right area and on our schedule. It cost us nothing and we were able to overnight the night before in the repair lot. We full time and Progressive made it easy.Re: Recreational Vomiting...Try feeding him at 3 PM and see if it still happens. Sometimes, an empty stomach causes vomiting because of acid build up. If it does solve the problem, you might need to feed him three smaller meals per day.Re: What Do You Do Without A Permanent Mailing Address? If your wife is planning on needing health care outside of California, and you don't want to pay for it out of pocket, make sure you get a PPO rather than an HMO. Most HMOs won't cover you out of state except in an emergency. The best state for health insurance prices last year, that also allows one to have a PO box address, is Florida. The exchange offers PPOs and slightly better prices. However, what ever state you choose, you need to establish residency. That includes registering your vehicles and getting new driver's licenses. It may be the case, if you have any ties to California, that it is easier just to keep your residency there. Then you don't need to change your driver's licenses, registration, and health insurance. You can still, however, have a Florida, Texas, or any other state, mailing address. Your health insurance is not tied to your mailing address; it is tied to your residency. For our first year full timing, our residency was Maryland for health insurance reasons but our mailing address was in Florida.
