We've stayed in the RGV 2 years now and are headed there after Christmas until the middle of April. We stay in a park in San Benito, TX and there is so much to do. They really cater to the winter Texans. We are about 30 minutes from SPI and 20 minutes from Mexico if either of those interest you. Our park has so many activities if you are bored it's because you choose to be. Lots of great restaurants, shopping, volunteer possibilities, beaches, dances, flea markets and did I say restaurants. We have made many friends there and are anxious to get back. There are manufactured homes, park models, Motorhomes, Fifth wheelers, travel trailers large and small; you name it it's there.248Views0likes0CommentsRe: What items have you forgotten when you left for the winter?
If you have a pet, don't forget to take their medical records also. If you take them in for grooming or to a vet it's quite important. Yes we have looked at and actually are dealing right now on an 299RET and a 331RL. While the 331RL has more drawers most are not easy to get to however the 299RE drawers face the table to the right of the sink and only has 2 small ones. There is a large pots and pans drawer under the stove; nothing by the fridge but a nice pantry next to the stove/oven. We are also opting for the bench dinette verses the table and chairs to add more storage underneath. The storage directly under the sink is a small v-shaped cupboard where you might be able to stand up cookie/baking sheets but not big enough to hold a regular kitchen garbage can; the rest of the under counter storage is used up by the water heater and a drawer on the living room side of the counter that you could put items that you don't use much. We are downsizing from a rear kitchen 2007 Challenger 29RK fifth wheel where we had so much storage to a TT and are really feeling the crunch. The Outback does look like a nice model also but we wanted the larger fresh water tank; the Outback has 53 gal verses 80 gal on the Sprinter and because we spend 3-4 months fill-timing we prefer the larger closet in the bedroom. What I am most disappointed in is that the Sprinter only has 2 small drawers in the kitchen. Looks like I'm really going to have to downsize. Pantry size is nice but what do I do with all the kitchen gadget that I can't live without?298Views0likes0CommentsRe: sprinter wide body
We are currently looking at the 299RET also and the washer/dryer in the front doesn't pose a problem for us as we've never added a w/d. What really has our interest is the fresh water capacity. We are looking at the new Sprinter Travel Trailers as they have an 80 gallon fresh water capacity (includes w/h) and was wondering what your thoughts are on the Sprinters in general. We are looking to downgrade from a fifth wheel to a travel trailer and would like to find a travel trailer with a large fresh water tank. It seems like most have around a 40 gallon fresh water tank; does anyone know or any brands that have larger fresh water tanks? This was our first winter as snowbirds and we headed to Harlingen, TX. While the weather wasn't as warm as we were hoping, according to the locals it was probably the coolest they've had in a long time; it was considerably warmer than the -17 Iowa got this winter. We were very happy with the resort we went to and 95% of the residents were very warm and inviting.... there's always a few in the bunch. The resort we went to had so many activities that if you wanted to you could be busy 24/7 or you could do nothing at all if you chose. The price was a little spend cause we paid month by month and didn't book ahead to get a better rate. We met so many new friends and can't wait to come back next year or reconnect during the summer. Haven't been camping in Florida but RGV was just fine for what we were looking for.... to get out of the cold and make new friends.299Views0likes0CommentsRe: Any sites available where you are at in lower TX?
Well we made it. We are getting settled in to Fun N Sun at San Benito. Seen lots of states represented here and everyone has been so nice and helpful. Can't believe how warm it got today. We've landed in San Antonio for a couple of nights at the KOA before tracking further south. We weren't able to de-winterized in Waco with the low temps and need to FRESHEN up a bit, calm the driving nerves and see the sights here. You've given us some good suggestions and will look some of these places up. I know the driver would appreciate dropping the 5th wheel some place and look around. Keep the ideas coming.
