Update 5th Wheel - Hitch issue
Just a quick update and please no debating over the brand of hitches. I received a message from Reese. This was their comment on the washer next to the handle: The washers allow the latch to move but most importantly to adjust the latch to fit the actuating handle correctly. The hitch was supposed to be new. Looks very abused in the pictures, so maybe they didn't put a new one on we won't ever know if you think a huge corporation is going to admit a mistake then I have some swamp land you might be interested in. It was Dealer installed. They have the old hitch I have a new one. I can't say 100% that we did everything right but we did learn a lot. I appreciate you all trying to help and your comments. I have printed out information that was posted and I have made a departure check list so we go through it before pulling out. We did before but this time on paper so we can visually see. I hope my experience will be able to help others. I think we can all take every precaution there is and we can double and triple check. I think the main thing is take your time and don't rush. The lock was just hanging there... We did use a lock going to a clip. We have learned a lot through this expensive process. I appreciate all the comments and help. Learning more every day. Our friends have the same hitch no washers. No one could give me an answer that is why I went searching. My husband does the outside work but I wanted to learn everything so after he is done we go through the process again so I can learn. So now I have more steps in the process to make sure that everything is set properly. We have a checklist for inside and out. The trailer is at the dealers now getting an estimate. We have called three days in a row with no return message. So I guess tomorrow I will be calling every hour. I am trying to make sure that they have done the estimate and if I can't get any help then we will pick it up and take elsewhere. [img] [/img] This is a locked position. The jaws were around the pin. I will be spray painting the claws on the new hitch. And I printed out the Instruction. No the king pin is not hitting the latch. It didn't pop out right away he went up two inclines and approximately 1/2 mile turned left at the stop sign to go up the Mountain and that is when it happened. He hitched back up and brought back to campsite. We drove into town and had a hitch guy look at. He said there was too much play and would not recommend putting the trailer back on. Also questioned the washers. I can't figure how to download a picture. So we drove to the dealer. I have pictures they gave us a new hitch this one has three washer. It was latched and we did pull test. We were actually on vacation. My husband went to go dump. He pulled out of our site drove about A quarter of a mile, two turns waited in line to dump when they person in front if him dumped his black tank all over. My husband decided to go to the other dump site turned left probably went another 1/8 of a mile stopped at the stop signed started turning left solely and watched it popped out. He checked everything and since I am learning to do everything I go through all the stages. I don't think the pin box makes any contact. This wasn't our first time out.
