The 210 or Rt 138?I should have mentioned that I will be departing from San Diego using the 15.Which is worse going around LA? The 210 or Rt 138?It is reasonably clear to me that I-210 can be very slow, particularly at rush hour time, and that 210 takes a deceptive and dangerous turn to the north in the Pasedena area. It is also reasonably clear that Rt 138 from I-15 at Cajon Pass has construction going on and is a steep road and somewhat risky. (Perhaps 138 has other drawbacks I'm not aware of.) What isn't clear to me is which I should choose in order to minimize risk and aggravation. Towing a 5th whl, which would you choose?Re: Water heater coversRegrets - don't have a part no. Camping World was the source for the door alone.Re: Alabama to OregonI agree with those who say to stay south (I-10) until California and then go up I-5 to Oregon. That puts you over just one serious mountain pass at the CA/OR border and avoids most of the bad stuff that can happen along a cold weather route. Believe me - been there and done that. Have witnessed fatalities caused by loss of control over icy overpasses and bridges; once while sliding along myself without much control on an I-40 overpass. Believe it when the sign says something like "bridge freezes before roadway".Re: Water heater coversJ_D_Freedom: the latch on my door needs to be flipped up against spring pressure, then rotated 90 deg over a couple of little bumps to line up with a slot. Essentially impossible to happen by accident. Actually quite a good design so long as used properly and nobody messes with it.Water heater coversQuoting Acampingwewillgo from Roads & Routes: "This was my experience last year. I've driven the MH for almost 13 year's without this happening including times on both the 99 and 5 in the same area your referring too but alas, last year while traveling the 5, I lost my water heater outside cover because of the rough road. I don't know exactly where it went bye bye but soon after Sacramento, I noticed it missing. May I suggest to those reading this to place a small "carabiner" clip or small padlock on the eyelet of that cover. I'm not the first to lose one. " My own contribution is: After going through a hand-truck-wash in Tucson I discovered that my water htr cover was gone. Regretably it was not discovered until I was 3 miles down the road. The rotating/flip up latch was standing straight up and down. My (paranoid?)theory? The grunt laborer who did most of the washing was having a bad day and decided to take it out on me by moving the latch to the open position and letting road wind and motion do the rest. Soitgoes... Another lesson from this experience: always do comparison shopping. The first place I went to for a replacement cover said I could only order the cover with frame, but could just throw the new frame away and mount to the old one. The second place said I could order the cover by itself. The price difference was significant, at least to me. Both were established well known parts supply places. Soitgoes again...Re: I-5 or Hwy 99A worthwhile comment about water heater covers, Campingwewillgo. I also have a comment about the covers and will place it in Tech Issues.Re: I-5 or Hwy 99The only Hwy 33 I see is west of I-5.Re: I-5 or Hwy 99Lots of good input - appreciate it all. Looks like I-5 at 65 mph will be my choice.I-5 or Hwy 99I've seen many threads about I-5 & Rt 99, but bear with me for asking about them again in a general way: From the intersection of I-5 & 99 south of Bakersfield, to where they intersect again in Sacramento, which do you think is the more "comfortable" route? What's "comfortable" to me? Good road surface, reasonable traffic conditions, not in a hurry. Will be towing a 30 ft 5th whl. Thx,
