The same problem in Algonac State Park (MI) on the river also. It works in Canada at about a buck a minute. My last surprise was my On Star would not call a Canadian number from Canada. I could call to the US from Canada but not a local Canadian call. I have had this experience myself travelling near the border on several occasions. I will speak from experience of having 4 daughters with iPhones (well three of them) and travelling with them! It can be an experience but always worth it! All you have to do when near borders is turn off the ability of your device to roam. It is part of every device's operating system.Re: Cell phone in Canada JimM68 wrote: Sometimes it's hard to remember Canada is a whole nuther country... The last time I went to Canada, my verizon phone flat didn't work, except for certain places in Victoria where it was able to get a signal out of the USA. This was maybe 4 years ago? FYI...Didn't know if you realized your link to your 68 is not working properly.Re: Cell phone in Canada two travelers wrote: We plan to spend some time traveling in Canada. It seems our flip phone with Consumer Cellular needs to have an International SIM card; they do not offer them. I was wondering if it would be cheaper to get a prepaid phone to make calls within Canada as well as back to the states? If we go this route, any ideas where to buy such a phone and what features/functions should we look for? If you don't want to spend a lot on a new device I recommend picking up a used iPhone like this; http://newyork.craigslist.org/lgi/mob/4886173398.html Then you have a device that will accept a SIM card from any carrier, including your current one. I have purchased my iPhone direct from apple and I use it world wide. It is by far the least expensive option and offers you the most control. Good luck!Re: Cell phone in CanadaTo put it in simple terms, make sure you have an unlocked device (meaning it will accept another SIM). Then just shop around for the best rates on SIM cards. Bell, Rogers and even (gas station) Petro Canada has SIM cards for sale.Re: Necessity of a spare?I think it is best to just take a few sentimental items in your coach and abandon it. Call up Newmar or Entegra better yet treat yourself to a Prevost and run it until the next flat.Re: Necessity of a spare? Executive wrote: Two pertinent points to consider: 1. For those worried about being stuck with no cell service, what would you have done 15 yrs ago..:h. If a police officer sees a rig on the side of the road 98% of the time they'll stop and check to see if you're ok. THEY have a radio! 2. When changing an outside dual or a front tire, the RIM does NOT have to be removed. Simply use the pry bar and remove the tire from the rim, leaving the rim on the coach. Reverse the process, air it up and you're on your way....Dennis Case in point! Get a CB if you don't have one! Then go have a beer and make a sandwich!Re: Necessity of a spare?I don't know your specific requirements but If you are concerned about your tires you would be farther ahead to install an appropriate TPMS. Additionally, when you do eventually use your spare it will more than likely be significantly older than the others you replace. I would get a couple of spares if you plan on doing some serious boon-docking where service is impossible.Re: Entegra? msturtz wrote: I wouldn't touch anything Jayco or Entegra. Their Director of Consumer Relations Celina Tyler does not own an RV nor does she RV. She doesn't understand the need of RVers. She reports to Marc West. Jayco makes externally pretty RVs but they cut corners in hidden areas. That said the unethical way we were treated by Jayco. You can fix quality problems but ethics is another thing. Seems like you had some issues. I don't know what happened but just saying "I don't like them" doesn't really help the OP here. I wonder if the CEO of Boeing has a jet or the CEO of Chapparal possibly living full time on a yacht? Even if it were the case what difference does it make? The CEO's job is to make sure the company remains viable not live with the clients! Not trying to start something with you but constructive feedback is well, constructive. Maybe I will run into one of the Walton's next time I am at Walmart. Hahahaa.Re: Entegra? Coolhand5599 wrote: Are entegr coaches good quality? They look like a good value. I want to stay under 350k Just went through this process myself. Was looking at Entegra and I am sure you will be happy. My understanding is that they are formed from mostly precious Newmar employees. I eventually chose a truly clean 2009 Newmar dutch star with only 20k on it. I don't know your experience with coaches or RV'ing in general but it may make sense to give things a go with a little less investment up front. Would caution you that anything relatively new will prob require several "adjustments" up to you but there are several really nice coaches out there for half the budget you are talking. Once you give that a go as I am then you will have some time to determine wants and needs on a newer and higher priced coach.Re: Great, Average or Poor deal mtrumpet wrote: cvbdsl wrote: Good luck, hope it turns out to be the perfect MH for you. Oh yeah, and of course, once you buy, either you'll find the identical unit for a lower price or everyone will tell you that you paid too much:B Chris Yep! Chris is correct! Happens all the time! :B Good luck! Keep us posted on how everything progresses! Hahaha...oh more than likely there will be some bubble bursting amazing deal just down the road from me as soon as I drive away with it! I won't stress though as I am flying down to inspect and have a tech take a look at a few things. If all checks out then I will just go ahead with things. I mean it is a relatively decent deal with the toad all included. The gent that owns it has every piece of paper and record for both vehicles. He is an engineer and may even top my A.D.D. its comforting! lol Anyhow, I will let you know how it goes one way or another. Thanks!
