The Onan 4000 in our previous Class C would blink an error code on the start/stop switch on the generator. First thing I would do is check the oil level. I had a problem with our gas Onan stopping after running a while that turned out to be a bad fuel filter. It appears to be an additional 12 miles of dirt road driving to access that section of the forest. My truck is not 4x4 so I may have to pass on that portion of the forest. That road is usually well graded. I'd ask at the Schulman Vistors Center about current conditions. ArtRe: Boulder Creek RV Resort and Ancient Bristlecone Pine ForestWe've stayed at Boulder Creek a few times over the years, but it have been a couple of years since our last stay. We'd consider it just an "OK" park. I don't know what effect new management has been. That is a pretty far drive to visit the bristlecones. I'd recommend driving up to the Patriarchs Grove and that shows as being over 80 miles and 2 hours each way. Did you try the fairgrounds in Bishop? We have stayed at the Highlands RV Park in Bishop and that is fine. ArtRe: Water Pressure RegulatorOver many years of RVing, we've seen water pressures range from a pathetic 20 psi to over 120 psi. Some campgrounds warn of high pressure and refuse any liability if you don't use a regulator. Generally most parks have lower pressure than we like and doesn't get to the 60 psi setting on our Watts regulator. The pressure in older parks can vary 10-15 psi and typically drops in the morning when people are showering. If the pressure is lower than about 40 psi, we'll put water in our fresh water tank and run off our water pump. ArtRe: Hemet, CA to Klamath River RV Park, CA Baja Man wrote: What is the problem with US 101 through SF towing? We always bypass the SF area going to/from the Northern California coast, but we had visited a lot of the SF area several times in ordinary vehicles, including trips over the GG in both directions. Even in a car, driving around downtown SF is "interesting". I'd recommend "driving" up the 101 using Google Street View to get a sense of that route. Avoid commuter hours! ArtRe: Beartooth passI'd agree with most of the others, it is driveable in an RV dependent on the capabilities of the rig and experience/skill of the driver. Going downhill and other drivers would be my biggest concerns. But I would much rather drive that road in a tow car and be able to enjoy the fantastic scenery. ArtRe: Best Route Recommendations Quartzsite to Redwood Nat'l ParkIf it were us and only heading to the redwoods, I'd probably say US-60, US-93, I-40, CA-58, I-5, CA-20, US-101. While going up US-101, get off and drive Avenue of the Giants in the Humboldt Redwoods. Getting through the Sacramento area will probably be your biggest pain. You will have to deal with narrower roads, curves and hills getting over to coastal northern California. We will be driving our 30', gas engine, class A and flat towing our car in April 2023. We would appreciate any recommendations on the best route to take or any advice/warnings would be really appreciated. That covers a LOT of possibilities. Could you describe how much time you have? Do you want to see anything else in CA? Do you prefer staying on or off interstates? Want to avoid big metro areas as much as possible? ArtRe: best route from Barstow to Pismo Beach, CAHave you checked 58 on Google? From Barstow west to McKittrick is good road. West of McKittrick it is mostly two lane road with sections that are more curvy and some up and down. I certainly would drive it with our 40' bus towing if I wasn't in a hurry. I doubt you would really save that much time over using 46. On a good spring 58 is a great wildflower route.Re: Route 199 CaliforniaCA has a 40' bus/RV limit on CA-199. CA restricted bus/rv routes
