No a/c from Generac generator
I have a Generac NG66P generator in a 1998 National Tradewinds. It starts and runs consistently, but after about 30 to 40 minutes it stops generating electricity. The engine continues to run, and has a slight increase in RPM, but stops producing a/c. If we turn it off and restart it within 15 or 20 minutes it will still run well but not produce electricity. After waiting several hours, it will again produce electricity. It has been doing this fairly consistently for several months now. Once or twice it continued to produce electricity for over an hour and we shut it off while still functioning properly. We generally only use it to recharge the batteries. Doesn’t seem to matter if there is a load on it, as it produced a/c while running both air conditioners – but only for about half an hour before the a/c was no longer generated. I have checked the brushes – they seem to be clean and move freely. I checked the generator wires at the transfer switch while it was producing electricity and got a reading of about 110 to 116 volts. When it stopped generating I checked the wires again and only got a reading of about 4 to 6 volts. I’ve downloaded copies of the Diagnostic Repair Manual 75239 and Technical Information Bulletin Y-788. Did all the tests that I could without having a frequency tester or an insulation resistance tester. May have to purchase those testers to do all of the troubleshooting described in the manuals. I can’t figure out why it works so well for about half an hour and then stops generating electricity. Is something heating up enough to expand and cause a fault? Doesn’t seem like a loose connection would work and then fail so consistently. Anybody have any ideas before I pay a shop to check it? Hate to go that route because we’re fulltiimers – it might be hard to find a mobile tech who is familiar with Generac generators. K&M1.3KViews0likes4CommentsRe: Radiator Hose
I replaced the upper and lower radiator hoses in my 98 Tradewinds with Cat 3126 engine. It is on a Freightliner chassis, so don't know if its the same as yours, but mine had a total of 6 rubber elbows to be replaced. The upper and lower hoses are metal with a rubber elbow at each end, and there is a 3rd hose crossing from left to right under the engine that also has a rubber elbow at each end. Got all 6 radiator elbows from Freightliner. They were no more difficult to remove than car radiator hoses. A little tight getting a wrench on one or two of them. Check your owner's manual on the refill procedure - you don't want to create an air bubble in the heater hose lines when refilling the system. Where would you locate the misters on a rear-radiator diesel pusher? I have a 98 National Tradewinds, like Kerry1, but don't see any way to get misters past the fan shroud. The radiator is to the rear of the engine and fan, so I assume that the fan blows the air towards the radiator, instead of pulling it the way a front-engine fan does. The OP indicated that the fine for not getting the vehicle registered is $100.00. According to the Nevada DMV website, the fines start at $1000.00 - link: http://www.dmvnv.com/nvreg.htm#residency "You must register your vehicle in Nevada if you are a resident as outlined below or a non-resident who meets certain conditions. The initial fine for failing to register your vehicle in Nevada is $1,000." This can be reduced by the judge if the violators provide proof of registration at the time of the hearing. If you don't show up to pay the fine, a bench warrant will be issued for your arrest. We will plan our itinerary accordingly to avoid spending 30 days there in any given year.
