We are expert boondockers, but the older we get, the less boondocking we do. Now I have paid for boondocking gear (solar panels, inverters, batteries, Satellite, etc.), that we never use. In retrospec, the decisions that we do not regret are, KEEPING our electric fireplace, and NOT buying the washer/dryer combo. This is just our experience.Re: double pane windows worth it?We have 2007 with dual pane windows. Love them, no fogging to date.Re: Fireplace HeaterI remember when we purchased our current FW. It came with an electric fireplace. We were mostly dry campers then. We thought this was an extravagance we would never use. We asked the dealer to take it out and build cabinets in it's place. He talked us out of it. He said that the older we get, the more we will use full service sites and therefore will use the fireplace. How RIGHT he was, at 63 years old, we love it now.Re: Roof top ac require 50 amps?I would like to comment on the notion of the poor knowledge level of some sales people. When I bought my 26 foot travel trailer (before my 5th wheel), this was the first & last rig that the salesman had "sold". He quit right after, but to get his commission, he had to return to do my walk through. He had never owned an RV and had never spent a night in one. He was far from an expert. Be VERY careful listening to the sales force. They are only there for ONE reason. SELLING !!! Some of them DON'T know squat about RV power.Re: Please ID this transmitterIs that an RCA video jack coming out of the top right? If it is, more than likely some kind of video sending unit.Re: Roof top ac require 50 amps?I have a 50amp service on my rig. Only 1 A/C unit. The reason it is wired for 50amp is to accommodate the optional washer/dryer that I chose not to install. I only plug in to 30 amp service on the road. I plug into a 20amp at home. I am okay at home running the A/C as long as I do not go crazy with other high draw appliances. All is well since 2008.Re: Solar chargingYou are liable to get many comments with this query. I will refrain from giving you any advise. But I will tell you what I have done, and it has worked for years. Very happy. Inverters Batteries: 4 - 6 volt Trojans deep cycle Solar: flat mounted on the roof - 220 W Inverter/charger: 2800 W pure sine wave inverter/charger/battery monitor All professionally installed. Keep doing your research. Depends on your needs and your wallet.Re: total newb looking for adviceWhat ever you decide on.... Beware of "2 foot-ittus". For every main feature that you decide you want, it seems to add 2 feet to the length (and price). Just say'in.....Re: Improving awful sofa air beds ?Just a very small suggestion...if the foot of the bed is a little higher than the head, just switch the pillows around. Sleep with your head at the foot, the incline would be much more comfortable.Re: 2 + 1 battery charging???None that I have heard off. I do know that my Magnum charge controller that I use in conjunction with my solar panels wants a setting for the TYPE of battery that is installed. It gives no option to mix and match.
