How many of us out there?IAMICHABOD; I check in every once in a while to this thread, I want to give you credit for keeping it going. I don't yet own any RV, but I have rented 3 times from CA and are pleased with their rigs. I especially like the recent post by TRM1 and Canuck Hauler with their detailed mods and upgrades. My last rental was in April, renting a 23A in SLC and driving to Southern Utah, it was a blast! Spent one night at Devils Garden at Arches and ended at Bridger Bay Campground on Antelope Island. It looks more and more in agreement with those who express the real value of a well maintained rental Class C. I'm pretty sure I would buy the extra drive train warranty but am still on the fence in regards to the longer House warranty.Re: Buying a Former Rental Class C. How many of us out there? To the folks discussing solar. Replacing a tiny panel with another small panel is not the best route. Adding a decent amount of solar charging potential is quite easy. There are many Youtube videos that provide good technique and tips. These aren't much different than any other Class C RV. First thing is to make the roof nice, all patched up and clean then attach the panels (maybe a 100 watt panel, or 2- 100 watt panels or a 160 watt panel. Buy from a reputable name, there are several.) Run the wiring to a controller then to the battery(ies). It's a good time to add a second battery. Along the way remove the little trickle charger panel. This is a quick video done by RVerTV, it shows a rudimentary solar install. I would try to put the wires down a vent instead of straight through the roof. He had his reasons for doing that of course so you can figure out how you want to run the wiring for your rig. https://youtu.be/p5BmUA5Dnjc There are many videos like this one to help figure it out.Re: Buying a Former Rental Class C. From there I will inspect it before signing anything so right now I'm not obligated to buy. Only thing that sucks is the folks that had it in rental extended an extra week so it's supposed to be dropped today at Cali. They were going to do the prep in Vegas but now the store in cali wants to do all the prep work there and from what the Vegas store said it was actually a good thing because their facilities in Cali are a lot better as far as equipment and on hand parts that may need replaced. El Monte's refurb location is in California. That is probably where the complete refurbishment will get done. Take your time.Re: Buying a Former Rental Class C. How many of us out there?I can't help with most of your questions, but a couple. When I rented a 19G in Las Vegas for a seven day drive to Zion, I never once saw the solar charging light on. There was a lot of sun at the time. You can find the price of new engine and transmission easily. There are several businesses that do just that. My opinion is buying a used rental is buying a higher mileage newer model compared to a comparable older Class C with lower mileage. Because they are bulletproof, some systems, TV antenna for example, are not there or a little more basic. One of the first things I would do is make it mechanically reliable, tires, etc and put a nice efficient solar system on board, That allows cutting the cord on many crowded campgrounds and allowing you to dry camp. For me, that is a good thing. Have fun!Re: Travato 59K Price? One thing you got going for a Class B purchase. To my observing eye, the prices stay pretty high, resale value if and when necessary are very good. Much better than Class C and especially Class A RVs. Just my loose observation.Re: Buying a Former Rental Class C. How many of us out there?Any rental RV for sale by the large companies would be built after Ford fixed the sparkplug problem. If I remember correctly engines built after 2005, RVs after 2006, have a redesigned head. There was a definite issue but it was was fixed.Re: New Fiat Ducato 2015 Class B MotorhomeI like the video and the Aussie lingo. "Time for a Cuppa!" I really like the European and aussie RV designs. US manufacturers could take notice.Re: Buying a Former Rental Class C. How many of us out there? Thanks everyone.Re: Buying a Former Rental Class C. How many of us out there? Thanks for that response. I know that El Monte rentals are off the shelf RVs, but CA rentals are built for rental purposes. I guess I gotta get off my rump and go somewhere to look at them.Re: Buying a Former Rental Class C. How many of us out there?Well for example, is the plumbing set up well for easy winterizing? Is the water pump set up well? Does the RV have 1 or 2 batteries and if there is 1 is there room for another? My understanding, to repeat myself, is that the electrical setup is somewhat simplified for easy use by renters unfamiliar with RVs.
